Some recent winter rec climb photos

Been here much more than a while
I've been getting into the woods every weekend to climb. Conditions have been awesome in eastern Massachusetts, nice snow cover with powder on top, snowshoe in to the trees and get climbing. Temps have been cold but overall there hasn't been a lot of wind and a good long ascent makes you forget about the cold.

Have a pretty good technique now to keep slingshot tubing warm enough to get a decent height throw. Before before you head into the woods nest two heavy large-sized wool socks, stuff the sling tubing into the socks and then stuff 3 or so of the oxygen triggered hand warmers (I use the "Grabbers" brand) in with the tubing. Leave the "heater" on the slingshot head until the last minute before you throw. This worked well down to the low teens f.

Awesome pics Moss!! Afew yrs back I worked a storm in NY. We worked through the winter and climbed alot in alot of snow. Pretty awesome experience! The only good part of the job.

Yea nice shots man. I've always wanted to overnight in the air in the winter but don't know a lot of the logistics outside of the obvious. Like managing moisture ect.

Generally it's drier sleeping in a tree than on the ground in winter. It's pretty much the same as summer in regard to precipitation, you want to have a rain fly over you either season if stuff is falling out of the clouds.

Biggest challenge in winter tree camping is staying warm, You don't have the insulating effects of the ground, need a good bag and a thermal pad.

Blue Hills Res in Milton, ya we're getting strangled by snow no place left to put it. It's great though, loving all the white stuff.

Let me know next time you're around if you want to get up into a woods tree.
