Snap cut, face, or just cut right through?

back to the subject and I use a snap cut most of the time. If you have a leader standing mostly straight up and you are pulling the tip towards the turret I will cut half way thru and then make a perfectly matching finishing cut and it pops off like a pop top can. A straight thru cut will luck out sometimes ok but it is the highest chance of getting a saw pinched and cutting stops at that point as does retrieving the saw to get it out of the way if the piece is ready to go bye bye.

As for a notch (referred to as a face cut?)...only when a tip is being lifted and I also have used them when trying to get a tree top to fit between other tree's canopies or slide out of your canopy by turning a little bit afforded by the notch removed. Dropping a little cable with the ensuing small amount of expected shock load is sometimes worth eliminating breakage on surrounding canopy if trying to protect them or to slide a lead out without getting hung up...imo.

This forum is awful dull lately...not sayin a good fight might liven things up, esp. me involved in one,.... just sayin.....:)

Civility doesn't become you TV? I joined an FB tree guy group only to see it capsize. It appears to be righting itself but, I found sometimes the threads would just become stupid pissing contests and headbutting. Myself, a civilized debate is much more enjoyable. If I want a fight I just have to piss my wife off.... And I do that with enough regularity!

No need to push my buttons Chisholm, just seems unlikely this many tree guys can get along on all points like on here....and....boring. No drama, just an opinion. You can always ban me if you don't agree...like Dunlop did. Cheers!

We can disagree without going neanderthal on each other. Keep the focus on the issue instead of making it personal. Adding value to the discussions.

What makes you think that is not what I meant? And when did talking or giving one's point become representative of the masses Treehumper?...We?

I only become personal in retaliation of same. If you can ever find one instance when I took the personal offensive during a discussion I'd like to see it.

My point is related to this thread and representative of much on here lately...this is a controversial subject posed by the OP and all you get is no controversy? Come on...what is your favorite cut...and why...and how does it work out for you...maybe a vid or some picts or recount of the experiences.

I guess I should've put, IMHO before that. What's controversial about what cut to use while doing a crane job? As for my favorite, it's the one that works with the way the piece is going to be picked. Having one favorite cut is like having a favorite shot in billiards, kinda becomes a handicap.

As for pics, I can't seem to get them to load. Not sure what the problem is.

:D
Ban you? That was quick.

I just don't see these discussions as boring. Not all disagreements are "exciting" or educational for me either. Pushing someone's buttons is only funny when they know each other and it's not meant to be offensive. That I'm fine with and do it all day long.

hey Classic, the first and maybe the last cut...looked a lika 2 part cuts?

What are those yellow clips/snaps you are using called again.?

Need to get a comm system, hate to see you get your fingy stuck under one of those clips while tensioning....owwwch!!

Nice vid tho
