Smaller Retreival Ball Solution

Right.. Pinto.. Pinto Rig.. i gotchya.. forgot about the rubber in the Rook..

I wouldn't really care if the rubber wore away.. as long as whatever machined surface the rubber sits in had smooth edges & won't affect the Cordage going through it..

Im just trying to use what i already have us all.. id use the small micro cmi i have but it's not very rope friendly & would have to connect to it with a biner or shackle.. but then shit starts getting long & complicated.. id rather just have prusik to device & that's it..

That is unless I'm mistaken & these below are rope freindly..

Nope, not rope friendly. But from personal experience both the pintos and the Omni block have rope friendly attachments. Ice tail is a VERY easily spliced prussik cord if you want to go that path.

Also it doesn't have to be a pulley, you can use a regular ring as long as you don't go with crazy rigging style loads. You can even do it in the old English prussik style with some fisherman's knots

Yeah didn't think so.. Still curious about the rigging plate on the Rook pully.. I'd hate to destroy the rubber in it just to find out what's under it..

Wait.. what was the original concern again? These the rubber would be bad for passing cordage through? Like the rubber would abraid the cordage, or was it what i was thinking.. if the rubber wears away, what's under it..

Haha. Don't even get me started again on rings..lol You get that ball rolling it's gonna be full retard all over again & I'll blame it on you!

Hahahaha.. just fucking around.. I actually got some rig rings in the mail yesterday.. gonna mess around with em if i can ever figure out how to splice this dang tachyon correctly.. Also have regular rings.. too.. just don't have the smaller Cordage yet. Ice tail is on the list of possibilities.. Do ppl cover that with different rope core covers/sheaths? Or is that a different product i was seeing.. maybe vectran.?

The Rook/Hydra pulleys just have rubber "O" rings in grooves inside the plate holes. You can take them out and put them in with a pair of needlenose pliers.

If you spliced the cord onto the two outer holes and use it as a prussik, it would be in basket mode and might be OK. I've never used cord in the holes, so I'm just guessing.

I've only ever seen Samson ice tail used without a cover. It's basically tenex but made with technora instead of polyester so you get much better heat/wear resistance

Oh no kidding they just pull right out? That's cool.. my only concern is once there gone, what about the groves the orings sit in, are they hard sharp 90* edges that just drop off or are they chamfered & smooth?

I can pull mine out if you don't know. They do seem to be pressed in there real good though.. you think I'll get them back in with just needed nose pliers? Or you think I'd need some ring press tool of sorts.. I'm assuming you've pulled yours before Jeff?

That shit is pretty freaking strong too.. i seen some insane rating on Technora.. it was like a 5/16 line with like 20k tensile.. Maybe it was a loop or something & doubled.. idk.. whatever it was, it was mind blowing. It was in Samson or Yales arb catalog.. Something about cord for volcanos & exploring iirc..

On the oldest one, they were getting a bit torn up from stuffing large steel 'biners through them. I just took them out. I don't remember it being very difficult.
Hey Jeff.. do you have any 10mm without termination..? Since you took your rings out, I'm wondering it can pass 10mm.. I don't have anything without termination.
I already can tell 8mm probably will..as some of my biners look to be same size.. but I'm not sure on 10mm.. & I'd rather use 10mm for it's strength..
