Show off them splices

Thanks for all the info Jman!

I was actually asking because I have access to a break test machine and if all people needed was breaking strength for a splice they're working on or not sure about I'd be happy to help out. Wouldn't be able to get you the super in-depth documentation but if a hard number is something that would help you, or anyone here really, then I'd be glad to break any short pieces you send in for free and get you the results and any pictures you'd want.

Obviously we wouldn't be able to take any legal responsibility for future splices made after a successful break, etc. etc.

Anyway I just thought I'd throw the offer out there. Hearing about people doing break tests using trucks and stuff scares me a little bit and the peace of mind is totally worth the time of breaking a couple test splices, I would think.

Very awesome of you to help us out. I might have to take you up on that offer. What dimensions would we have to make for you to test them out? Iirc knot and rope needs them at 5-6 feet with 5" eyes, but it has been a while since i have had anything broken. I do think they do prussic cords but i have not sent one in yet.
 
Anywhere from 3 foot to 6 foot would be fine, although if the line has high elasticity, something on the shorter end would be better. Super short is doable, so are prusiks. 5" eyes and up will give the most accurate results due to the bend radius that will result, although if you want tight eyes tested I'll just find carabiners with a stronger break strength and clip them onto amsteel slings. Should be no problem.

Let me know what would be useful in terms of report. What it broke at, obviously, but I could also take pictures of where the splice failed so you don't have to pay to return it (although I know a lot of guys like to feel it in their hands).

You guys do good work, even a cursory glance around this forum makes that pretty clear. Consider it a professional curtesy; If I can help out in any way, I'd like to. Especially with safety being so important.

Yeah, it's weird, says the file isn't found when I click the attachments. Just make sure it's got identical splices on both sides, 3-6 feet finished.

Looks good to me!

It does look like there was a mark about an inch in on the right side of the eye. Did you change the size of the eye during the project?

I remember my first Tachyon splice...well over an hour and tore my hands to shreds and I hadn't even fully buried the visible core of the eye. I left it for another day. I totally have them down now, and blister free! After all the Tachyon splices I've done, it makes splicing Imori feel like an absolute dream!

I could do it blindfolded...I could do it with one hand tied behind my back even...

I measured for 1/2 lines...oops. bury was 11"that was as far as I could get cover to go. I put on harness, clipped in a crab to the eye and one to butterfly knot and tow hook on my truck. Commenced to smooth and load the eye with body weight. It took some doin' but she slid together nice...next one will get a little lube an prolly go a bit easier, hopefully. Thanks to all that have contributed to the splice rack! I couldn't have done it without you, buzz brothers!
