My first Vortex splice, and the first time I have had trouble pushing a fid through the cover where the original core still in place. Ended up getting out my Brian Toss wand and pulling it.
Other angle. I decide to use a non standard orientation of the plate as I think it will work out a little better for me than the more common way I've seen. Looks weird but I think I like it.
I've been waiting on it for this next week or so. I have some time off and wanted to fill some of the days in with good splicing time. I'll post up some picks once I'm done. I got tenex rigging sling with pinto, 8mm AP poly, 10mm AP, some 3 strand that I'm having some trouble with, Fly, your endura braid, and a rocket line lanyard (already put this together) that I will be doing. It should be a solid day of splicing. I hope the fly goes well.
I'm going to whip it and put it to use, may put it to a pull test with my truck and a tree just to see how it acts, but I followed instructions to the T and it all went just like the instructions said so I know it is strong and done right..
The convo above got me thinking:
Can I ask where you guys usually send stuff for testing? Or do you normally do it yourself, like customcuts is talking about potentially doing?
Also, do you know what kind of testing they'll do? And cost?
Knot and rope supply, 15 dollars a break, if you don't want your items back and i think its 20 if they send them back. I would call they might have updated pricing. They send you a report of the forces involved. I like to see what it slips at and have something in hand to prove my splices are good. its really just an added benefit to see your stuff hold. i had 3 blaze broke and all three broke in the 76% iirc. Not prefect but they where from a long time ago.
Do they just do a basic breaking strain test, or do you know if they do any kind of pre-cycling before they break? I'd be surprised if they do, but since you get a report I figured I'd ask.
Strait pull to break, but I'm sure if you asked and set something up special they could accommodate. They are awesome people and take the time to talk to you when you call with questions. Give a call and you could probably have pre cycles done if you wanted.
So they just test to the break point? Just so you know that your splicing procedures are adequate? I was just thinking of tying to the ball on my truck and to a tree then just pulling on it real hard, no shockload.
