Show off them splices

Hey welcome Nik, those look great. what's the line they're made from?
1/2" Tuff12X from elevation canada, the same place I got the rings. Seems very easy to splice, their 1/2" bull rope was also pretty nice and very easy, I'm surprised my first try at a tight eye actually seems to have turned out pretty good.

Here's a fun and ridiculous project from today. A Dynaglide soft shackle for a specific purpose, and just to see if I could. I tied a diamond knot, left the tails long, buried one inside the other and did a sort of whiplock. This lets me pull the knot through the eye easier because it's so small.

I'll Bite, what's the specific purpose?
It's a cock ring, the metal ones are just more trouble than they're worth. Just kidding. It is meant to hold a chest ascender to a loop sling in front. I'm toying around with a homemade chest ascender just to see if it adds anything to my configuration. If it doesn't work for that I'll use it to attach my handsaw scabbard to my harness. I have a larger soft shackle I use for this purpose currently.

If anyone feels like explaining this to a simpleton, could someone make a video showing how to do a locking brummel with a covered eye? I can't for the life of me get my head around it

If you can’t use the end of the core to pass through, in the past I’ve unbraided and rebranded the core tail, but testing showed it weaken the splice by an additional 15% to the usual loss from the locked brummel. I now do the Tuck Bury splice from Samson. Testing showed just a 1.5% loss

Years ago I was shown a rope walker set up made from Ocean Polyester. The top splice was a locking brummel with a covered eye so it looked identical to a DB splice. It was how the splicer got the cover completely over the eye with no core showing in the final splice that baffled me.

Is it possible they used a class I double braid splice for it, seemed to recall Warthaug having done it with some lines. It would be hard to get the cover buried in the typical class II splice, or the Tuck Bury.

How did you come up with to milk the cover once the half-strands are tapered at the final step to avoid them hooking up with the sheath??

Yes, no room to bury it, a little stitching to hold it down while whipping. I unbraid the cover tail and smooth it out around the cord for a more symmetrical result after whipping.
