Probably not much of an advantage really, I've made tons of ultra slings and they're great, also a quick and easy splice. Just wanted to work up something different.

I recently found my CMI mini orange block for 3/4'' rope. It was missing for almost two years. I thought maybe it had gotten left behind at the job site. I knew it didn't grow legs ......only two other guys there that I have know for 20yrs. Both very honorable. I used it up in an ash as a gin pole about 30' up with the GRCS at the base. I don't use the GRCS much but I do have a smallish rigging bag just for ring slings that are dedicated for the GRCS. The rings never got used on that job. I have used a couple of rings here and there since from out of the top of the bag. This spring I was going through all my gear. Total reorganization. There it was misplaced in the bottom of that gear bag. All the while I wondered where the extra weight came from when moving the bag around.Had to replace the Omni 2.6 that managed to sprout legs..

I thought about it, also considered asking my sister for a couple horses. The cabin is private land but cut off completely by state public land (hints no motor vehicles of any type). It's my buddies father's place so he and I and another buddy are just making a day out of a 4hr job and then gonna spend the rest of the day and night partying in the middle of nowhere. A 2mi hike is worth it. And on top of that, it's still a paying job!Mountain bike in maybe?
Should those be triple Brummell? Looks like you got doubles there. Climb safeThat's some best case scenario right there!
Ultraslings are awesome. Still want to bury the tail, but this will work for now View attachment 69605
Good of you ..... for looking out.@kludge, I got to thinking about this thread and realized you buried one fid length each way. The typical splice requires two fid lengths. I don’t know if the brummel would give the same amount of friction as an additional fid length of bury would.
So assuming proper taper, the issue is the bury being pulled out? With the Brummell I find it hard to imagine that happening under load. Seemed more likely to be pulled out by accident or purposefully pulling on the burry leg. Am I missing something?Your loop is not dangerous, just not as strong, maybe a better term here is secure, as it could be with a proper splice. Being a loop, pulling apart from a shorter bury is probably more likely than breaking, as long as the tapers were gradually reduced.
