Should I retire my blue moon climbing line

Another fairly standard guideline is that if the more than 25% of the strands are damaged in a lenght equal to the diameter or if there is a decrease in diameter, then retire.

So if 4 strands within a 1/2” lenght are damaged on a 1/2” 16 strand arborist line and/ the diameter of the rope has an “hour glass” feel to it, retire/replace.

It's different for double braids.. Cover holds about 40% and core 60%.. Kernmantle is more like 10% cover and 90% core.. 16 strand is 90% Cover.

I’d apply the guideline to any arborist rope. The manafacturers are fine with that as well. Start getting too technical for in-field inspections and you can rationalize just about anything

I disagree there is a huge difference of 3 strands cut on a 16 strand rope, and three on a 32 strand cover on a double braid.
