Sharpening Spurs/Spikes

How sharp can you get them spikes? Do you use a flat bastard file or other? Relief ? Your tools and technics?

Klein Gaff sharpening kit. Has all the stuff so you get the angles right etc. i like to shave with mine. But that is a byproduct from line construction work I did prior to trees. Most guys I know never sharpen theirs

I use a 6 inch file to get in sharp. I keep them really sharp. I'm a big guy and like to walk up the tree instead of stomping up. I never understood why guys don't keep up on them. Dull spikes drive me nuts. Only takes a few minutes

I just take a little flat file, to the inner plane. Don't touch the other planes. Keep the angle right and you will be fine. It's not rocket science.

Mac if you only do the inner plane your spurs will progressively get thicker and take more force to enter the tree.

Exactly. I'm progressively get thicker and applying more force to my spurs. So it all balances out.
