Sequoia - add a rope bridge?

I was thinking about making a velocity i2i rope bridge to put on my Petzl sequoia. I would like to use my cmi micro mouse for double crotching or a single pulley TIP for freedom of movement in the canopy. I haven't checked with Petzl yet but does it seem like it would be an issue?

I would think a bridge is a bridge. As long as the strength is there, why not?

I've toyed with the same and more importantly toyed with getting rid of their rings and putting in some shackles. I just don't like those rings for some reason.

i had my sequoia set up with a rope bridge, i just removed the gold rings and replaced them with bow shackles and then inserted a piece of cordage threw the shackles with triple stopper knots behind the shackle ( basicaly just made it like a treemotion bridge setup)

I just used a replacement bridge for the Glide saddle and girth hitched it onto the gold rings. But it's non-adjustable if that is what you're after...

I think a Velocity I2I double braid splice would be too long for a bridge. I could be wrong of course, but it seems to me it would require pretty accurately overlapped tapered tails.

I hadn't thought about the velocity splice in depth yet, and Ron that's a good point not the best selection of rope it's just what I had extra of, I like the glide bridge idea robinia. Thanks guys. I only like the rings cause they're cool and orange

I second that a bridge is a bridge as long as you set it up the right way. The glide bridge is nice and strong and round which has its advantages. I just recently had a glide and then bought the butterfly 2. the butterly is a better saddle imo but the bridge is crap. the same with the sequoia. my butterlfy bridge started unraveling after a week of use. i ordered the webbing bridge for the glide and replaced it. much simpler and better.

I was using a Glide replacement rope bridge and didn't like it. The cover seemed to bunch up and slip around on the core. I also found the girth hitched ends could pick in thick brush because they were uncovered. I switched it up with a Petzl bridge called a Twister (22kN) and like it better (attachment) . The only downside I see is the rating : 22kN compared with 9000lbs for the Glide bridge.

Here is what my Sequoia bridge looks like now:

that's alot like the bridge that i got for my butterfly. what is 22kn? isn't a kn 273 pounds? that still puts yours at 6006lbs...that's more than acceptable. i like it better than the buckingham version that i got that usually comes on the glide (the webbing version, not the amsteel version). it looks like it is much smoother which comes in handy when implementing a swivel like you have done. the one that i got frome buckingham has some overlap which kind of blows sometimes for the smoothness factor of a swivel or ring or carabiner sliding to and fro on the bridge.

a few questions on the Rich H bridge, what kind of rope is that? ( I was thinking Tech 12), How is that splice preformed, I figure locked brummel, but how can you get the girth hitch on after the splice is done?

and do you splice with the cover on or slip it on after splicing?

It's gonna be hard to beat one of Rich's bridges.

Rich would have to answer questions about material, type of splice and how to deal with the cover. Here's a closeup of the splice:

I can say this. I have used this I don't know how many times now and the girth hitch hasn't budged, enlongated or anything else.

I can also answer the question about how you get the girth hitch on. Rich makes the eyes so they just squeeze around the ring. You can install one end of the bridge without having the ring free. But the other ring will have to be free to pass through the eye to form the girth hitch. I know for sure this can be done with the Weaver Cougar and I would think any other saddle would have some way to isolate the second ring.
