saw for hire tv show?

Think this comment on the Discovery website will get through?

"Saw for hire sets a bad example for people interested in quality TV programs. Crude, reckless exploitation at its worst. Probably the low point in television journalism."

I heard the Las Vegas car dealer featured in the reality show about car salesmen was in trouble for exploiting the employees.

Aint this horse dead yet.

Really could someone tell me though just what is ISA going to do about him. Not like they can shut him down. Not like he as to abide by a self appionted standard. Sure OHSA might be able to get something, but as most know OSHA is hardly ever seen. Even in the states where you need a lic, this type of guy would not be shut down. Lic is held for trimming, prunning, and PHC, anybody can still do take downs without a lic no?

TCIA and ISA put a nice letter together, it's in TCIA's website. Saying to discovery channel that your an upset arborist may not carry as much weight as saying you have 30,000 members and represenrt 2000 companies. We all know it is up to individuals like us to help him.

I was going to stay away from this thread as I prob should.

But!!!

Can I see a show of hands from the letter writers who have been hurt, or have workers that have missed work from just this year from injury. I seen the silly stuff that Nosack does, like the staged tree drop on the car. Yet I've failed to see any of his guys get hurt. Don't seem right to point fingers at someone if you've been the cuase of injury statistics for the industry.

Hollen like the Rabbi said, "Do as I say, not as I do". That means he admits to his imperfections but it doesn't take away from the value of what he says. Once again it comes to the curse of celebrity. If you choose to go on public display you better be prepared for close scrutiny. In Nosak's case, you don't have to look hard to see the danger in what he does.

Wow! I watched the two episodes on Thursday and was amazed no one was hurt. I had one OSHA recordable this year on the crews, had to take one member in for saw dust stuck in his eye. A little wash and some drops or something. We do not bite off more risk than we can chew. We also make our living being friendly with the high voltage lines on a daily basis. This guy may have not hurt anybody but he's sure heading in that direction. He talks about being safe yet no one even has chaps, which I would consider basic PPE.

It's been voiced already. A crane continuing to signal overload is hazardous (maybe a few tipped crane vids from youtube are needed here). I have not done that. Communicating professionally without cursing or screaming at my crew, always have chainsaw pants on (a rarity here). I am perfect? No. Once again though that doesn't disqualify me from commenting. Nosak doesn't know? Or he chose not to continue to learn unlike the majority on this site. One of the hazards of this job is we can fall into a single way of doing things and not have contact with the rest of the arboriculture community where we would be exposed to new ideas and concepts as well as new regulations.

Nosak is walking the line, pushing limits that if this were an extreme sport we'd laud him but, this is a business that is meant to generate revenue for those that own it and income for those that work in it and for everyone to go home at the end of the day no worse for the wear.

We,too, are outraged by this Nosak guy and his cheap-thrill of a show. Below is what I sent to Discovery/TLC about it. We are finalizing a project that promotes companies and arborists who adhere to strict ANSI standards. A promo will be up soon on our website: www.arborart.net. We'd love to hear from all of you about it. In the meantime, stay safe!

Re: Saw For Hire. My name is Dean Glascock, certified arborist #SO6006-A, in Nashville, TN, www.Arborart.net. We have been in production for over a year filming proper tree care and removal operations. In short, our plan is to become an advocate for the modern-day arborist using the latest techniques while stressing safety and industry standards. Arbor Art is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)as well as the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). Saw for Hire is NOT the kind of show that legitimate arborists and accredited professionals want out there promoting our profession. In fact, it is a textbook example of what NOT to do. Our project is educational, informative and entertaining, shot in HD by film professionals, and the finished product is a show that our industry can support and be proud of.
