Saka vs Velox?

Ok...I just went through all this thread.....and you know what...personal choice...I have them all including a sweet shinascender that Jo Hedger came up with and helped me make....after using them all you know what I choose to work with....my second generation HAAS....it curls neatly into a ball that hangs on my small caritool....never know it's there....smoother stiffer faster lighter multiuse...these words are used by different folk describing what they PREFER in a knee ascender....I choose practical...they are all functional and smooth to me....I do not rec climb...so for me at work that coiled up HAAS is what does it for me....trees here are not that tall so I am not looking for the knee ascender nirvana...just something that gets me up the rope efficiently and most of all stores nicely....View attachment 37264
Good deal, it is all about finding what works best for you.
Do me a favor though and donate the SAKA to someone who will use it.
Cheers Paul

Richard I don't want to let it go just yet....I usually travel a lot...might come in handy somewhere...who knows a Redwood....lol....different tools....plus it was a gift...I always cherish gifts....smile

I have both and like the Velox better than the original HAAS. The bungee tension is much more consistent throughout the entire range of motion.

I haven't tried the SAKA but I have both generations of the HAAS. I like my old one because it is so easy to coil up and is totally unobtrusive when on the harness. The new one performs better though.

I just got the velox, rw hitch climber pulley, and climb right foot ascender for times when the wraptor is not so needed.
I have played with it a bit but I must be doing something a bit wrong because when i get up the ascender jams into my hitch climber pulley and is pita to get off. Climbing with it isn't the problem, I hip thrusted 30 years so its a welcome improvement over that. I do like the rw and beeline with distel compared to taught line its sweet.

Up until now i used my wraptor with a gri gri on it in case I needed to come down off it while ascending. I switch over drt up in the tree with separate climbline and a split tail. It worked ok ,I just had to try new srt systems out seems easier on redirects. I wish i had this stuff in the 1980s !!!!I wish I had seen the hh before getting the rw t00:reloco:

Are you tethering the rw? W/ neck bungee, over the shoulder lanyard, chest harness, etc, blah blah blah?

I run a Saka but to me he either doesn't have the length set correctly or he is taking one step to many. Mine is on my left foot and my last step is always a half step so there is room left to remove it easily by pushing it up by hand and unlatching it.

I think what was happening was; I raised my leg to reach the release and the bungy pulled it into my hitch climber! I used it two hours up and down today and did not have the problem today. It still feels weird to me though, as I'm used to drt after reaching wraptor height. The tree I used it on today was why I got the rw not really wraptor worthy 50 foot tip tomorrow two pines so i'll use it more seems like it gets better each time.

...seems like it gets better each time.

It's very awkward to me, too. I need to set a line in a tree at the shop and just spend a day playing with the setup. Hard for me to get comfortable with a new system at a jobsite, I get frustrated and just go back to the DdRT until I can sort it out. I'm pretty sure it would be easier to play with it when there is no pressure to get some work done.

Richard made this custom shoulder SAKA for me a little while ago. I really like it. One of the things that stopped me from getting either the HAAS or SAKA was the problem of what to do with the thing when not in use. This way it doubles as suspenders, chest attachment and knee ascender. I always carry a sling anyways and that is what I use for the foot loop. The pantin was also my addition, it was the smallest ascender I could come up with.

Good to see it in action.
