saddle and lanyard question

I picked up a lightly used New Tribe Twist rec saddle as a second saddle if a friend or my daughter ever wanted to climb with me but when I took a better look at the thing it doesn't have any side D's to lanyard into. And the bridge is a single soft eye which does not look large enough for both the attached climbing line hardware and several added biners or snaphooks for a lanyard. Any of you chaps have experience with this saddle or any ideas? I thought about a 3-hole paw right above the soft eye but with the two added biners which would be required, it seems to put the Bone or Zigzag quite high (biner from the saddle bridge eye to bottom hole of paw, then second biner from center hole of paw to Bone, the two outer paw holes for lanyard tie in or second climbing line for traverse or whatever. Also, it gets even worse yet if I want a swivel at the bridge eye below the paw. This is definitely not a working arborist saddle but I would think even a rec saddle wants to be lanyard friendly. Any insight from you guys would be most welcome!

Have you considered just adding rappell rings á la TreeFool style? Both my backup harness' (for my buddies and the kids one for my teenage daughter) are rock climbing harnesses and I've added D's to both using webbing and knots.

Thanks, sounds like a good solution. How would I find a photo or more info on how to do that?

Yep thats it, the spare adult harness i have only has the single TIP like on your Twist so I closed off the system by tying an eye loop around each of the the leg loops using a overhand followthrew knot.

A nylon or polyester loop runner can be used to add side D's to any saddle using either bow/anchor shackles or Petzl Ring Open type rings. I do it to convert Petzle Caladris big wall rock climbing harnesses into tree climbing harnesses. Those are in a trailer that is currently buried under a foot or so of snow, but the photos below show the technique. This is an ordinary heavy duty tool belt converted for climbing comm towers under 50', but you can see how I did it. I used a ridiculous crane sling that is overkill, but I had it on hand and it was the right length.

The sling is bolted to the 2" structural belt in four places (you can see them under the shrink tubing) and all of that is bolted in two places to the padded inner belt. This is all to keep everything in place so it doesn't shift around. The hole through the sling and belt are made by running an awl through them, followed by a soldering pencil to melt the edges so things don't fray.

Challenge with the NT Twist is that it is designed as an all-purpose rec harness that fits a bunch of different sizes, the anchor off the waist belt tends to fix you upright, great for putting people on zip lines or running a rec climb without having to own a bunch of different size harnesses, but not a good choice for your primary harness. I recommend the NT Tengu for a solid side-D harness. The Twist will be a good second harness to put a friend on rope, that will happen! ;-)

Aha, just read your orignial post in more detail, you bought it as a second harness, I'd leave it as is. perfect for that use. A lanyard can be anchored off the center attachment when your guest climber needs a second tie-in.

Hey there AJ, right, my own harness is a Yellow Jacket. Love it! Really comfortable. I must admit tho, after trying it on, that Twist is pretty comfy too.
