Rope wrenching on a rec climb

Nice, moss. I've run that one during a cable installation a short time ago. There are many options to set yourself up for progress capture on the return. One is to run the RW over the limb you are leaving and manage your traverse with the tail, or use the horse knot. I am surprised you had such difficulty on the way back, since you weigh nothing, and it's been verified.

Definitely Oceans, after I got out of the tree I realized I should've put the wrench back through the crotch so it was aimed in the right direction for progress capture and lowered with the tail or like you say rigged a releasable knot.

10/4 I still weigh absolutely nothing.

How can such a heavy-weight in the rec world weigh nothing? It just doesn't add up!

Moss,

Can you give some more pics of your quick detaching tether? I have been using my uniscender for both dDrt and srt switching back and forth. It has been a pain to do because any links tend to kill the advantage of the stiffie.

I'd like to be able to do what you have done there with the quick detach.

Here are some detailed photos, I used the locking twisted stainless shackle that treestuff.com sells:

The core of the tether is made with NE Ropes Maxim tech cord

Something like this might be easier to build, I used 6mm Ocean Vectran from good ol' treestuff.com, and a slic pin. Took some fender washers and worked them to create a washer with a tab to pin it to the eye, also liberal amounts of super glue. The pin is glued in to one eye. Not elegant but fairly simple and works.

Hoping that Oceans is going to come up with a slic pin Whipple Tether for the masses!
