rope runner

Does anyone know or have ever tried to mount a twisted clevis over the lower slic pin to use as an advancement point. I realize the clevis would need to be drilled out to accept the slic pin but was just curious as I think it or something like it would make an excellent way to clip in and out for advancement.
My first thought when I saw the new Quickie was could it replace the lower slic pin on the runner...

The quickie uses a larger slic pin though right? Also a twisted clevis would be oriented perfectly for a HUT or lanyard over the shoulder.
I think you're right about the Quickie pin. Yes the twisted clevis would be perfect...
The original tending spot works great but I am obsessed with symmetry so I like your thinking.

That's what I'm working on this morning, I ordered several single & double Slic Pins from Pivot Point Inc. And placing an order for a couple shackles and twist clevises to see if it will work for an application I'm working on! It'll be 7-10 days til the pins arrive, but they have every size imaginable...

Keep us posted on this Dave, I'm interested in a shackle style tending point as well (something that uses a slik-pin would be awesome)

I agree Dave. I tried dealing with them for a project in work. PITA when trying to get a few pins, finally gave up and engineered the product differently. Shortly after that I ordered 10,000 pins from a competitor, they probably should have tried a little harder to get me a few pins in a timely manner.

They're telling me that they want $22./pin under 1,000, then it goes to $18, so now I'm understanding why TS is charging $60/quickie, they're still marking them up 200%, that's total BS, they should cost us $40, at the most. I don't like to say anything negative about TS, but this is just wrong! wrong! wrong! So, my plans got shot in the Azz before I even started. Pizzes me off!!! Well, better now than in 2 weeks. Sorry guys, but it's outta my pay grade, $22,000 just for pins before a discount.

Dave, i was surprised at the price of the Quickie too.
However, ts sells the replacement pins for the roperunner and the rw for $5/pin.

It's not the pin where the money on the quickie is right now. I have looked desparately for a stock shackle the right size. Its ordering shackles in quantities less then 10,000 pieces that's so expensive. 1000 slic pins is cheap.
Thanks Kevin, I wasn't intending on being an Azz, re: the parts & the Quickie, especially towards You. It's just frustrating trying to get answers & results from middle man companies, for specialty items. I've even thought of cutting/heating/bending my own shackles out of tool grade steel, but labor/time would be a huge deterrent. I have the utmost respect for You, Gordon, Reed, Frank, & many others for your efforts and generosity of knowledge. So short of sounding like a Suck Ass. Thanks to everyone that has & is bettering our workplace ease & accessories!

Somewhere I also mentioned that after I lost one too. Epoxy is much better. If your gold runner needs a set let me know Steve, I still have a few sets left.

Thanks but I still have the spare set you sent me and the one that didn't fall off. The other runner I bought was for another climber. I'm the gear loan guy. Like rent to own if you will. His runner doesn't come with the walnut blank option as they are mine and he's got to get his own. Am I being a dick? Should I just get him some? Meh. Who cares. Hey I just put $600 worth of his crap on my card. If he doesn't pay me guess you should watch treebay.

I am going to try the quickie on my runner on Monday. I got a second one and I think it's worth a try. I did notice I had to push the slic pin really hard to get the second plunger to engage with the retaining plate on. Otherwise it doesn't engage fully. I ended up taking the pin retaining plate off for now while I give it a try. It seemed like one little detail that could be easily overlooked so I opted for removing that potential mishap. Anyone else trying it? Just wish there was an aluminum version.

Please forgive my misunderstanding, Steve. When you wish for "an aluminum one", are you talking about what you called "the pin retaining plate", or the SLIC pin itself?

Thanks for your time.

Tim

I think he is talking about the *quickie*. If it were aluminum it would be lighter and softer than the SS for this application (i.e. using the quickie as a tending coupler). I should probably just let Steve answer...;)
