rope runner

OMG! This is so much BS I am at a loss for words.
Comfortable as in getting far out limbs to tie a limb off. Large spreading trees. I had a feeling some were going to take that the wrong way. Again, that's what I believe. Some believe in Christmas, some don't.

Spikes are a positioning tool no different than your climbing system or lanyard. Any competent climber knows when and how to utilize them to maximize ergonomics and safe cutting techniques. The only climbers I've ever seen slowed down by spikes are those with no or little experience with them.

I get it but whilst blocking down the spar, how does one comfortably and effectively do that spikeless? And for the record my spikes aren't uncomfortable. The are hardly noticible unless I'm in them for greater than 5 or 6 hours.
There are techniques for leveraging your self between lanyard on one side and climbing system on the other in a way where your weight is supported, so that the feet are actually just a point of contact. It's a pain in the ass to figure out, but if you get the hang of it, I think it works pretty well. Especially for smaller statured climbers. Maybe not you and me so much Steve.

Obviously no spikes on a prune, and certainly not discounting Derek's skill, he is well know to be an animal climber. I've done removals spikeless, but just wondering why in that situation.
And the ascender mounted in the spikes Is a wonderful investment!

Yeah I'm in that category. I'll just keep the Kiwi's on at that point. Oh so hey, how bout that rope runner? I'm already replacing both bollards and the pulley. Ive done the once rotation but according to the inspection sheet I should replaced them due to wear. I guess it lasted a little over a year. Is that "normal" lifespan for the bollards? It may fix my angry release under load. I may just rotate the bollards one more time instead of a switch out. Depends on how I feel comparing old to new. I'm that guy who tosses saw chain that isn't perfect and isn't fixed back to "factory" after I touch it up. I hate working against the saw and see no need to sharpen it and file rakers until theres nothing left. The point being, I got my use out of it so if I have to replace it, no biggie.

Yup
