Rope Runner Problems

I understand what you are saying, I have tried on my red and a friends gold version and cannot duplicate. As I slide to the right as when the rope would be in place, the more it is in alignment and cannot tweak enough to jam, if I go the other way the rope and the nose on the body prevent binding.
I look forward to hearing what the issue is that you have discovered.

Flop, slack and dangling are never good and will allow anything to get out of shape and tangled
True words. Even with the rhino, i can still catch the ring up on the bird and upper pin. With the shorter RW pin, it slips back off. I'm using a new tree motion,
i suppose putting a smaller ring on the bridge would solve the problem.

I know i'm hard on gear, but a branch did that to me.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have been checking out my RR and reading through this post, and I thought there was a little too much play in the bird/spring area. Then I followed your directions. Unfortunately my RR is going on the shelf till this is figured out. Thanks again for the heads up. Glad you're safe.

Without a doubt Mike. In fact in my case I can fix/modify anything so I'm just waiting until I get bored again then I buy another RR. What I'm hoping is that CMI and Kevin find the issue and address it. I have no doubts with Kevin but I don't know enough about CMI to make that call yet.

Playing more with my runners, both cmi and detroit made, with the proper amount of Significant force in the right direction, this self locking Hazard can be replicated.. Cmi is in no way responsible for this incident and have a very strict and rigorous quality control. The aluminum is the same 7075 that I used on the Detroit made runners. Other than the spring, the models a re virtually identical. It is very unlikely to me that there was an error in assembly.

This crossover has never occurred to me and this is the first report of it happening. But what can happen will happen. Working in the shop last night I found that one inch diameter x 1/16 inch washers can be placed on the bollards to prevent the possibility of this crossover. I will be discussing this with treestuff and cmi today.

After looking at it a little more, it appears that the spring isn't wound tight enough. It looks like one more wrap would eliminate the play in the side plates .

The Cmi spring is set different than the way I set it, when I first got the gold I was concerned but quickly realized I enjoyed less spring tension for my climbing experience. There is definitely less resistance on ascent. The climbing experience is better with a looser spring.

I think some minor changes should be made to the tending washer. The Detroit made had flat washers. I have had my Cmi bent washer jam in the biner as well but it did not pose to pose a function hazard. The hole is also smaller which is hard to clip into.

Again thanks for sharing your experience. We will spread the word and work on a solution.

One thing, please do not go off and start jamming your runners to see if they will jam. You can make them jam. but you are in essence forcing your runners To places they shouldn't normally go. I also found that after forcing them to jam once, the easier it becomes to make them jam And easier and easier. So PLEASE do not go off and torque your runners around in funky positions To test them.
