Rope Runner Problems

And a replay of the second really bad RR climbing experience: This is why i put a RW pin on top, and switched to a rhino.

I have been climbing on RR since sept 2014 i have never once had that configuration happen(seems very hard to accidentally happen), even with multiple rigging lines and 2 anchors. tho only problem i ever have had is with a too big of a biner on neck tether that held the bird open but as i do with a hitch i checked it was engaged before sitting down. changed biner solved problem.

Thanks for the heads up on the cmi runners. Will check mine tomorrow for any potential defaults. I've found flipping the tending point around so you use the smaller side of the washer prevents less flop. Also using a small keryring ring works really well on not getting caught in the biner, I use an Ultra O.

Check these out (scroll all the way down). Super small. They seem perfect for a rr and would prevent getting caught up. Only wesspur has them other than CAMPS website. There is also a YouTube video of them on wesspur a page.
I use one of those and I like it very much, but it can still catch on the tending washer, if that's what you're referring to. It might be harder to catch, but once it does, it might be more likely to bend/break it. I think campsaver.com (no relation to C.A.M.P.) has them on sale now.

Comparison to a Petzl OK, Ultra O, and a RE rockO. Length about the same, but about 1/4" narrower, inside and out.

Last summer i was limbwalking, and jumped thru a crotch to work further down and out. Misjudged, let go of the hitch too early.
I had a rope angle of 45º + from primary TIP, the rest is pendulum physics vs branch union.
I was trying to do a 180 rotation at the same time, to grad a particular branch underneath me.....
Many bruised and near broken fingers later, i seem to have the trick down, but it squeezed and twisted Wrench my first wrench.

I don't think the sky is falling. It's sort of like the zigzag scare but not as drastic. Just check your gear multiple times. It just comes naturally. As I sit Bach into my line I'm looking at the thing keeping ,e from falling. It's just a natural instinct for me. Just don't beat on your gear and it'll be fine. Not being critical but look at how this happened. The description of the events seemed like it was being used in an aggressive manner. If you choose to use it similarly just visually inspect it before you weight it with your life. I'm still climbing on mine with no issues and my zigzag hasn't crashed yet.

I get what your saying Steve, but for a life support device, I want to be sure...beyond a visual inspection. What concerns me is the fact that Mac could tell a noticeable difference between his runner and the gold one. Sh*t happens in tree work, whether you are careful and inspect your gear properly or not. Not everything is foolproof.

For instance, the butt of a large limb your rigging comes back at you, slamming your Runner. I mean anything can break. I get that. But could it cross load and release? I guess I'm just looking for the thumbs up from Mr. Bingham. That'll give me more confidence in it.

I haven't used the gold runner or even seen it. Just wondering if I should wait for another batch or all is good!

I'm sure you will get a thumbs up, with an asterisk, don't beat on it and pound on it to the point it cross loads. I have a blue one and a red one and I have played with the gold one, unless there's some real variance in the manufacturing, I think there will be just some cautions issued.
it is in the class of what I call "big top" multiscenders and you have to be cautious of anything coming down and laying and hitting the top of the device. It can be as much as your lanyard or a carabiner to take you for a little ride.
