I like a pulley at the TIP with DdRT mostly to save wear and tear on the rope, and the smooth ascents. Today, I needed two lines (one in each of two adjacent trees) in order to limbwalk out on a stem that was horizontal right over the top of a nice redbud tree the HO planted about 3 or 4 years ago. They really didn't want to see it damaged. I'm doing this job solo, so there wasn't an easy way to rig it out of there without some help, so this was pretty much my only option. I used two friction savers and a hitchclimber setup on one, ZZ setup on the other. Both were noticeably smoother on descents and had better fine control while out on the limb. The extra friction at the TIP was actually rather nice in this scenario, and I'm beginning to think I'll be using the rings more in the future. In fact, I'm thinking of getting a small X-ring to try out as one of the rings on a friction saver. I think that might satisfy my desire to keep the bend radius larger than what the regular rings provide.
