Rock exotica pulley

Hey Jones, if I may ask you about the setup that you have a pic of, how did you lay out the rope for this sling? I'm really interested in how you set the RE Omni setup. What is the blue cordage and mini biner on the right hand sides function and what did you wrap it with? Thanks!, Dave R.

What's a friction saver?

Really?

The rope is set in a Purcell Prusik style with the ring in the free end and the prusik end has the pulley captured in it. The small blue cord is just a capture if the rope pulls through the pulley upon retrieval and I just used a piece of heat shrink over the knot to clean it up. I would like to claim the idea but I saw it from a Japanese climber on Youtube, Daigentanoen, he had it setup with two rings, but has since made a new video with this type of setup in it.

It is super smooth as you can imagine since there is literally no friction due to the Revolver and the pulley combo. It is adjustable from about 31" to 47", and that's straight line not circumference, you can do the math, ;)

Very Cute! Pickin' on an apparent noob!
It's a sling with a ring or a pulley on each end, so you don't damage the tree or your rope! LOL

I hope that wasn't in reference to me... I'm no Arborist, just a rec climber with almost 30 years of rock and ice climbing, rappelling, and rope work under my belt. :inocente:

Jones, think of a rope running thru top row sling and biner anchors on a tree, versus running the rope directly around the tree.

Most friction saver systems install from the ground using a throw line and weight.

This I know, it works the same as a Pulley Saver, both of which you can't install from the ground, only once in the tree.

Yup. I don't ever see needing one. I see no advantage in having one.

You must be a SRT kinda guy, but to each his own. Not sure how you can say no advantage in having one, for SRT sure, but for Ddrt it is pretty much standard, unless you feel that not using one is better for the tree somehow.

Probably not, I used the term friction saver in the wrong context apparently. ;)
Don't know about word context ,but hot damn you gotta burn up some hitches with such a friction less tip? This may be what treeclimber33 is referring to? When I used to climb ddrt (well still use tail of line as ddrt every once in a while) I found rings were the best balance of enough friction on descent yet smooth enough to not feel difficult on ascent. Just what I noticed after tried a pulley for a hot minute thinking its better. All that said to you maybe it is for ..you.

Oh yeah why I came here... I'm basically a ring rigger 95% of the time ,but I love the omni for the ability to turn a butt catch drift line into a tagline just by popping it open and taking the rig line out . Love it for that setup.

Also can be used double whip tackle style on the piece you are cutting. Mid line attachable is a beautiful thing.

I don't burn up too many hitch cords, I use a ring for descending so it takes all of the load off the hitch. The pulley setup is the tits when it comes to ascending, it is effort less with hardly no friction.

I don't like using a pulley Ddrt either. Aside from it burning up my hitches faster....when man pulling yourself up (ascending), you need to hold the line with one hand on your working end, while tending slack with the other hand. When you are holding yourself up, you feel heavier than with a ring n ring friction saver, because of that lack of friction at your tie in point. Always seemed to put more wear and tear on the my elbows during long climbs. My elbows were bothering me something fierce a few years ago so I was quick to stay away from that set up.

I like the fiblesaver for Ddrt.
