Rig N' Wrench

I've read the whole of this thread, though am still a little unsure whether the Rig N' Wrench will work with Samson Arbormaster Blue Streak (16 Strand, 1/2") - Does anyone know?

I've never even used a rope wrench before, never-mind a Rig N' Wrench.

Thanks

Craig, I've been using True Blue, and couldn't be happier with it. Anything under 100lbs requires a little assistance, literally you can let go of the rope and it just barely creeps through the RnW, if I'm pruning smaller branches I use a hank of 7/16" HTP. It seems to run a bit faster and smoother. I've been really happy with the device, but it all boils down to the weight of what you are lowering. I posted a few pics of the the sling that I made for it and it has been a real game changer, with the addition of several DMM rigging loopies to perform a fishing rod affect to guide the rope through the tree, then place the RnW at the end to the Landing Zone. I hope this helps in answering some of your questions.

Thanks Dave - I did manage to check out the sling you made - (sweet!) though struggle to picture -

?

I'm convinced I need the Rig N' Wrench, though have a slight gear dilemma; I already have this Rig Saver Prusik (pic below - bought for a home made u-saver - though ultimately never needed/used due to transition from ddrt to srt). I could try and return it(though long past return date)/sell it, or I could cut the beautiful stitched abr eyes and use the cord to tie and finish (ala duct tape - using what I got) a home made tether - then I'd just need a rope wrench. Could I make a good Rope/Rig Wrench Tether? What should I do buzzers?

Can you save up for a week or two and just buy the whole rig n wrench setup? Extra pulleys come in very handy. Then you can use the rig saver as a rigging redirect? I have a couple larger pintos on prusiks that I use all the time to distribute loads throughout a tree or for tag lines.

I have the same Rig Saver Prusik set up and have been using it girthed onto smaller anchor limbs (the prusik is quite long to make all the wraps on the 5/8" sling). For larger anchor limbs I attached it (prusik knot) to a short 1/2" eye sling as an adjustable anchor sling for the R&W (R&W passes through eye, and prusik adjusts to fit anchor limb) - not too bad.

Rig N wrench is the bomb! I've been rocking it for a bit now. Very intuitive and easy to figure out.
I had a little loopie spliced on the pinto, works great.
To add a little more lift I tried adding an omni pulley on a sling at the base of the tree being rigged
and the Stein RC -31 pre-tensioning pulley on a prussic to make a bit more mechanical advantage.
I've only tried it a few times but seems to be spot on. One guy can pluck a pretty beastly branch no problemo.
Bad ass device!

Finally got to use my new RnW on a small poplar removal. I"m using my ZK-1. It did a good job except for the fact that it did not engage twice. When the groundie put tension on the line it wouln't engage. Is this normal or is it because I used the ZK-1. I was rigging with a 12 strand solid braid called Sportline that is no longer made.

The RnW if dependant on rope choice as much if not more than the RW. I would try a different line and see how that works. I know I tried about 4 of my lines before settling on one I preferred.

was there a limb in the way? that has happened to me where a branch prohibited the wrench from engaging, i had a redirect after the rnw so the wrench was being pulled into a branch keeping it from grabbing.

Nothing in the way. I had to set the wrench by hand. When the groundie would put tension on the rope the rnw would flip back up and then didn't engage. After that I told him to take tension off of the rope and it worked better. The rope is 11-11.5 mm and the zk-1 is wide open. I haven't tried the zk-2 in this configuration yet. I feel that it may be related to the length of the zk-1. When I first got the rnw I hung it off of the chip truck and used poision ivy and a rope bag for ballast. It also failed to engage half of the time. I was raising the rope bag and letting it drop as you did in your video. Is anyone else using the zk-1?

I do feel like the zk2, especially with a springy tether is better at engaging than the zk1. I have not tried the zk1 as of yet. It might be nice with its adjustability. I would try getting It pretty snug to the rope.

image.webp image.webp I figured it out today Kevin. The ZK-1 is straight walled and wider than the tapered body of the ZK-2 . The short and fat tether is getting wedged between the side plates of the ZK-1. The tether won't fit between the sides of the ZK-2. I will put the ZK-2 back on the rnw because I just got your rr this week and won't be climbing on the rw anymore.

I'm using the zk-1 still on my rnw. I use 12mm buzz line with the wrench all the way open and I haven't had any problems. I have swapped it out for the zk2 and it def runs better, esp with that built in pulley when lifting but I'll continue to make due till I either get a RR or another zk2

So I got to looking at my wrench after reading this thread and I actually do not have my wrench set to all the way open. I've set it to about halfway. I always use the same 12 strand rope with it so I never need to adjust it. Sorry if that mislead anyone
