ive been using the one i made the other day and it works quite well. rigged 30 foot 6" dia redwood limbs today no problem. and tried it on oak as well. i think 300lbs is about the limit for comfortable rope handling.

Nothing against Kevin's but I really like that one small and compact.
 
yes, there is a sheave. the rope runs over the sheave, over the biner, and over the top pin. on pulling slack or lifting, the top pin causes the whole unit to tilt up and the rope runs smooth. it works really well on pulling. i will send you one if you like, or i can send you drawings/solidworks file.
