Rig N' Wrench

I just use some of the 5k tech micro cord in a tied in a loop with fisherman knots. Then it's girthed to the wrench, and again to the pulley

Recently saw on mountainproject.com that Edelrid will be releasing a device called the Ohm that works like the Wrench for, as Treebing suggested back in post 147, to aid in belaying unequal weighted climbers.

So has anyone tried running a couple of these on the same line? The possibility was mentioned a while back on this post, and I had thought of it myself, but wasn't sure how it worked. I also do not own several rig-n-wrench ' s but if this works Iwill be buying some. I could see the a peal of spreading the rigging friction throughout the canopy.

I tried running two of them in series with two different ropes... XTC 16 and ForestryPro. The high friction 16-strand was too much friction to be usable for my purposes, but with the lower friction 12-strand it was quite usable for the heavier pieces. Seemed to me it was useful for pieces that were pushing the safe limits of the rope, though... it was easier and more controllable to just break out the friction brake (RC-1000) for added friction when I had a helper.

I didn't play with this much, as I have an AFB, too... and just switched to using it with two wraps for a similar amount of aerial friction.

Thanks for the response guys. By double whipping, do you mean having the rig-n-wrench on one stem, rope tied off on another, and then the piece your lowering tied off in the middle of the two? I saw that in your video and have done it myself many times, but I'm not familiar with the term.

Thanks again

Basically uses two pulleys/blocks... one fixed, one moving... and the rigging line fixed. Numerous configurations, this one just uses the RnW for the fixed pulley. Drawing is one I made while explaining to someone how to keep the cut piece moving away from the climber, since it falls away a little slower than traditional (single fixed pulley) setups. This setup is 2:1 MA, and 2:1 VR.

Gotta say that there is the double blocking method vs double whipping, the latter being two ropes, two friction devices. The first being....well, two blocks.
