Rig N' Wrench

So now that we are 17 pages in on this, what is the preferred rope? I know many have mentioned some before but I figured opinions may have changed with more use of it. I have some xtc 16 around that I currently climb on. Is this a good option, and then upgrade my rope for my hitchhiker? Or keep the xtc and buy a rope with the rig-n-wrench?

I think the 16-strand climbing lines are perfect, especially the ones with a nylon core (extra energy absorption) like the Samson that @Steve Connally linked. These have great friction for the slightly bigger stuff. The 12-strand polyester ropes have plenty of stretch because of their single braid construction, but less friction. This is perfect for the lighter stuff that won't drop through the RnW unless you put several pieces on it. They're also quite cheap. Personally, I wouldn't be without one of each, since neither one will break the bank. I've been using XTC because I picked it up for cheap, but the next one I buy just for the RnW will be the Samson rope. I did have a well used hank of Blue Streak that I liked, but it got a little friendly with a homeowner's lawn tractor when they decided it's good to mow the lawn during a tree removal. I'll make some slings out of it, or something.

I think the short answer is, the low cost 1/2" climb lines work so well, there's not much point in spending a lot of money or worrying about getting a 10,000 lb. rigging line when the whole point of the device is light rigging.

Thank you guys for your input. I have an order ready to send to treestuff for the rig-n-wrench and the Hawkeye with spliced eyes. To date I've been using a homemade version that worked with my stable braid for lighter rigging. I can definitely see the benefits of this system. And can't wait to have a smoother functioning wrench

When it comes to buying a light rigging line or replacing a climbing line and usig the old for rigging, always treat yourself to a new climb line!

So I'm incredibly slow to spend money, even on things I want, but I now own this nifty little tool. Picked it up for 20% off on black Friday, and just shipped here yesterday. It's been raining ever since I got it, so I guess I'll stick to playing with it here in in the house for now.

Anybody make their own rig n wrench with spare tools and care to share a pic

I don't have any pictures of mine. But I made a wooden wrench and tied it off to a omniblock. The pros were it worked, cheap Bc I already had the omni block, and it worked with my 1/2" stable braid. The only real con was, since I had it tethered to the attachment point on the omni, on rare occasions the tether got wedge in the pulley with the rope creating a brake that had to be manually pulled out of the pulley for the load to be lowered. It didn't happen often, but when it did it sucked. I'm pretty excited to start using the production model and the Hawkeye that was suggested.
