Rig N' Wrench

Old fluffy twelve strands sucked in a major way. A new twelve strand has been working good. It's that generic orange stuff. Yale maybe. Gonna try and old piece of xtc fire that I have lying around.
How did that xtc fire work out for you?

I'm still looking for a good line to buy with the rig n wrench...

Worked pretty well, even when it was soaking wet.

Tried to use that buzz line the other day with some frozen spots in it....holy shit totally useless. Had to give up and set new rigging. Frozen rope will not pass thru the friction point.

Cool. I think you may have been expecting too much from the RnW. I use it with the OmniBlock 2.6 like you're doing, with the RnW used as a redirect. I tried it with the Stein RC-1000, too! More than one wrap, in my opinion, is getting to the limits of the ropes it will work well with. It just feels wrong to me. But, I like getting very long service out of a rope and when I get that feeling that things are getting close to the rope's limit, I just switch to the 5/8" setup and the Stein RC-2000.

This coming spring, I want to try a 3-strand, 1/2" rope with the RnW setup. Mostly curiosity on how the friction changes, but 3-strand ropes are cheap. Not as strong, but handle abrasion better, so a trashed rope doesn't hurt the old First National of Billfold as bad. I'm thinking, if I break this 6,000 MBS rope, I just found the limit for my 1/2" RnW setup, and if I know this limit and stay under it, I'm not going to break a 7,000 MBS rope, right?

None and not much stretch at all. Not familiar with he exact numbers but I srt and even on long ascents with my 200' line I find it to be on the more static side of the curve

I might make the jump from ddrt to SRT next year, so I'm just trying to get a good idea about ropes

Well don't confuse the rope conversations in here with those in the Rope Wrench thread. if you're looking to use the wrench for climbing then make sure you read that thread, it is where the better information on rope choices will be for that intention.

I understand the difference- I was just derailing the thread.

I also know not to mix rigging and life support.
