Retrievable doubled rope redirect

KS- your system is a great idea. I've been playing Mahk's idea a bit, and I think the incorporation of the prusik might be just what it takes to make this something more worth carrying around the tree. I can't wait to try your way out.

Get a spliced eye-eye sling and I think you'll find the system to feel more streamlined.

I want to splice the clevis on the end and the capture the snap maybe in the brummel? What would be the best way to do that? I think a spliced prussic would advance more easily.

I think the idea of the snap in the brummell is a neat one. What you've described would make a nice setup, I think. But it's good to play around with it knotted at first until you know what to make up.

I got to try the Mahk Adams/Daniel Martinez technique today. I used a RING/ring friction saver that was just bigger than the branch it was going around. It went fine, but I noticed that the weight of the tail of the rope was enough to almost pull the whole works out when I wasn't hanging in the system...but it never did pull it self out.

I think I would streamline things by just carrying the small ring, then if I ever wanted to give it a shot I would just tie the ring to the end of my climbing line.

I was using 1/2" XTC. I think it'd work fine with Blaze, too, but I haven't tried yet.

Come to think of it I've only used the tail of my rope when I am at a lower point in the tree--mainly so I can always get to the ground if I need to. That also means the amount of rope hanging on the FS is relatively light.

Most of the time, and always when I am higher in the tree, I use a throwline for retrieval. The throwline has never budged the bight of the FS rope.

Did you push the first bight through the small ring? It takes a good 'pop' to pull the bight out, but it could come out more easily if the bigger ring is used.

Also, be aware that a smaller line for the FS would make the FS line pull through the ring a little more easily.

Does anyone know if the Mahk Adams/Daniel Martinez technique has flown at comp...

Tim Bushnell, Head Tech at the ITCC, took the photos two or three years ago and liked the technique. If you want to use it at a TCC just run it by the head tech at gear inspection. And again, I don't think you'd have any problem with the bight spilling if you use a throwline rather than a rope for the retrieval line.

heres some pics that tom asked me to add from some i put up on www.arbtalk.co.uk. i got the basic idea from the buzz and this is what i got it too.
the first pic shows the double fishermans on tail of the rope with a bight passed through it. the fishermans then locks tight.

the end product. its the same as the fs rig but by ommiting the rings. to me this actually makes it a bit safer and you carry less gear (just a double pulley and biner).also the fishermans will undo if caught in a crotch so it def wont get stuck. cant remember who originally thought of the idea but cheers and hope this helps

Great idea happydaze! Less gear, same benefit.

I was a little confused when I read your first post, before looking at the attachment. Its a Scaffold knot. Some discussion here:

and see the attachment.

Here's mine that I made last week. I've got an automatic fly reel with throw line on it connected to the release on the snap shackle. I've only used it twice but so far so good.

Drew can you post a few pics or video of your setup. I've been looking at that redirect setup on arbtalk for a while and can't fully figure out how the climber removes and retrieves the redirect while in the tree? Thanks,
