Retired hitch cord use

Not hitch cord...climbing rope uses.

ON the last couple of vehicles and trailers I've wired trailer lights. Over the years I tried so many ways of protecting the pigtails. Now I find some rope, pull the core and use the cover as a chafe sleeve for the wires. On the tow dolly I used an old 1" tubular webbing sling as the donor for the sleeve. This worked out really well. I slit the webbing just a little and slid it up onto the four wire plug. Kind of like a turtle neck. A slather of Titebond III works well to hold things in place.

In the 'attic' of my camper I have a shelf for bulky and odd shaped gear. I'm going to make up a net to cover the gear. Again, pull the core. I'm not sure if I'll use bowlines to connect the web or see if I can to a sorta Brummel-esque splice to join the corners of the web. It will depend on how hard it will be to fid the sheath open.

Getting the oink out of the pig is important. There is too much waste in the world.

I've never found a second use for hitch cord though. Too short...but I do like the rope dolls!

I still trust them for most chores you would use a tubular webbing sling, in rigging. It would be interesting to pull test some worn chord with some memory to it. I’m not very tolerant of chord that is starting to lose function. I’m sure I retire eye to eyes that are still acceptable for life support use, such as a redirect in basket formation.
