Relocating from UK to San Diego, CA

That picture would not be a new or impressive concept to me as a business owner. The tree industry in the states is rife with cowboys that think they can one hand an 880 (and those of who have.)

What would be impressive to me would be if you sent a follow on inquiry that included what you could do for me to help me accomplish my goals (make money etc.) As in how dedicated you would be, on time for work, no cell phone in your hand accept at breaks, work late when needed, a self starter that doesn't need hand holding etc.

Also if I positively wanted a response and feedback I would contact owners who apparently can perform on their end and say, "This is what I want, what would it take for you to be interested in.....?"

Additionally make it easy for them, you do the research and find out what sponsorship or what have you takes. Have everything ready and lay it out. "You have to do this and that, all the papers are ready, I will email it over, sign here and there...."

Make it easier and more beneficial for a person to say yes than to say no. (A confused mind says no.)

There you go Sgriff is ready to go to bat for you .....if you find out the details.

If you're not great at computer research it would be well worth paying/trading someone who is to gather info. Should be fairly quick.

If you want.

If what you most want is a position I would encourage you to only have them have to say, "Yes". You will prep and do and provide for everything else possible.

Make it easier to say yes than it is to say no.

In that picture I am pulling an 880 up into the tree. I have never used an 880 with one hand and don't think I could if I wanted to. I'm slightly confused as to how or why you came to that conclusion?!

Also, thank you for your advice - I have sent a resume to 10 people now with a covering email explaining my skills / experience. In some situations I have included links to the specific visa's they could apply for. If I get a reply from any of them I will be the first person to sort out the paperwork, trust me!

And in reference to being on time every day, not being on the phone etc - these things are a given. I shouldn't have to say this in a first email to a prospective employer to impress them - they are the basic requirements of being an employee!

This is very true, but mr fowler did previously say he is not that kind of guy, maybe in other thread, but rather he is a pruning type fella lol thats what i got from him anyway. Merle has some very good points that seems like you already picked up on,i looked at the link but im not sure who needs what and to file where,im on mobile,it's gotta be pretty frikkin interesting for my eyes to squint like that.
On the othe hand you may be better off switching your status once here. Is your wife doing this same process for her job/visa?

Aaaand I would in no way be critiquing anything you did or do. I was just telling you what I thought would work to give absolute result.

When I first started out I wanted to work with one particular tree service that was a whole family operation. I called them and talked for a bit and they said no positions were open. I said how about if I come down there and work for you for a week for free, if I can make you money you keep me on, if not I'll be on my way. .....Ok I'll see you Monday he said.

Yeah its not very interesting at all mate! A H2B might not be possible anyhow because of various points, depends on the employers business really.

My partner is super clever and is getting a H1B visa which her employer is sorting for her with the help of a lawyer. But you're right, it is possible for me to switch to my own work visa later on - I imagine this is what I may end up doing, but it will mean I can't work for a bit and I would probably get a bit bored!

Just means you can't work on the books...i know some people and im sure will need a hand here and there no doubt. You ever climb eucalyptus? I can only imagine they are everywhere in the world [emoji30]

No worries, apologies if I seem frustrated. I understand the sentiment behind what you're saying, it will be so much effort for someone to employ me I have to make it so easy as they can't say no!

Its pretty complex the whole visa thing and the irony is at least half of the places I have been looking at are advertising for staff, showing there must be a shortage of alright candidates, yet I may struggle to be able to legally get one of those jobs, even if I was in the country!

You essentially started out the same way as me! I agreed to work for free for a bit, but the guy ended up paying me anyway :)

I have done before, but never done a big one and not climbed one for a while since I've been doing street trees!
