Rec Climbing in Oregon in August ??

Hi Everyone. I am hoping to do some recreational climbing while I am in Oregon for the ITCC in August. I am volunteering for the event and then will be staying in the area until August 19th. I was wondering if anyone from the area would be willing to help me with a recreational climb. I am from the prairies of Canada so the trees in the area are much different than what I am used to and I would love to climb a redwood if at all possible. I need some help going about it though because I have never done a climb like that before and I am not well schooled in the world of SRT. I also know that there are rules about what trees can be climbed so if you have information about that too that would be great. If anyone is willing to help me make this a reality I would really appreciate it or any suggestions of who I can be in contact with would be awesome.
Thanks everyone. Happy climbing :)

Prairiechick! There is a women's rec climb/overnighter planned for the Monday after the ITCC - super sweet group of women plus some of the ITCC peeps will be attending - it's an awesome grove of old growth Doug firs - massive trees to test your SRT meddle. PM me if you want to be included! (sorry, gals only guys :) )

Stan and I are both helping Peter and Patty at the Fun Climb on Saturday.

We also hope to cross some ropes with others from around the world.

For events like this would a FB event be of any help?

I am very glad to read that you are attending the event on Monday the 13th.

See you at the top,
Dan

(yes, that is Smokey)

I'm not much of a recreational climber, but, there are some great big trees of all variety in very urban, high traffic areas in Portland. Bagging those arboreal summits requires stealth, timing, and savvy... and a headlamp with a red lens. Those unauthorized ascents were lot cooler and more fun than climbing some big monster in broad daylight in BFE IMO.
Be sure and have somebody drag you to a McMenamins!

There will be lot of rec climbing going on alot at salmon river I defiantly hope to camp it in those trees a few nights. Anyone wanting to do any rec climbing or camping pm me, I'll be down before and after the conference, can't wait to get this many tree people all in one city

I'm interested in coming up for the weekend and meeting up with some or all of you! Is anyone launching off to this shindig from the San Francisco or anywhere in the Bay Area. I'd love to be able to carpool with someone there and back. I'll help pay for tolls and gas.
Carly
