Rec climb in MA?

I am installing a fence at me Casa next weekend. If the project wraps up Saturday, which I am hoping for, I am in for the climb.
Either way we should schedule one for the Boston area as well soon.

BostonBull hope you can make it on Sunday, should be a great day. I will be interested in one in the Boston area as well sometime. I would even hike to your neighborhood if you know of any good trees up their. You guys all wrapped up in Worcester?

I probably can't go much further than Boston for a rec climb in the next couple weeks. Roger Williams Park cleanup on the other hand, I can't wait. Hey Tom maybe you should post something about in a more viewed part of Treebuzz. I'll bet you could stir up a lot of good climbers and get a lot of work done.

Ted, I will do this very soon. I need to find a date that works, and sadly, it has to be a weekday, since 'Da Union' rules require Parks employees to be brought in ANYTIME work is done in RWP, and our overtime budget is empty. On a weekday, however, the guys are already getting paid, so no one can bee-otch.

I am working with National Grid and Davey to schedule another date, I will post it here when we set it!

I know a few good trees on the Umass campus. No one will bother us, their pretty used to people climbing in the trees around campus.
I also know a few college students who could use some exercise!!!! How does that sound to everyone. Maybe something on Sunday March 22nd, around 10ish!!!!! I'm flexible.

Thanks for stepping forward and setting a location and date. Unfortunately I'm booked for 3/22. Looking forward to when I can join some of you for a climb in the Happy Valley or west of there.

For eastern Mass. anyone want to call a date/location? I'll take a look at my calendar as well. I like woods locations to improve height and tree-to-tree traverse opportunities but I'm open to whatever we can come up with.

I'm more into a Boston climb. Time is getting tight.

Tom, I think I can persuade my boss to let me get there on a weekday, I'll ask him now.
"hey boss can I have off whatever day I want"?

Good news, I said yes.

I'm such a good boss to myself.

And i wondered why Arty was so weird. He got it from working with you. J/K, the two of you must be a blast together!!!

So, I propose a time of 10:00 in the AM on Sunday the 22 of March for our rec climb. I would like to meet at the football stadium parking lot. Their are some great trees their that we can start in, and figure things out from then on.

These are the same trees that the New England Chapter had their competition in 2006.
I drive a red toyota tacoma and will be their early, so look for that if you can, I'm sure the parking lot will be full, so just look for the large oak tree with a few lines hanging in it.... See you all then. This is open to anyone who wants to join us for the climb, all skill levels.
Their is also a good chance that anyone interested in the ergovation, can get all their questions answered, as well as a test run...possibly!!!!

That is the Football Stadium parking lot at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Ma. Sorry i left that out!!!

Sounds like fun. Should be able to make the 5 minute drive to the stadium Sunday. I just got hold of an Ergovation as well so people can play with it, tho I am hoping to get it dialed in.

Sheesh, I've been so inactive in my own thread!

I live just up the road in S. Deerfield, so I'll brave the 10 minute drive and see you there early as well.

Just got my hitch climber setup all figured out today, and had a few of the guys at work pretty wow'ed with it. I wouldnt be surprised to see them coming in with some new setups themselves soon.

That floating bridge setup is saweeeeeeeeett! If I never have to tend a climbing hitch by hand again, I certainly wouldnt be too disappointed. :)

I think there was something in the water in the town we grew up in. It's tough to say who gets what from who, we just riff. He is one of the funniest people I know and you can count on that kid, I will say that.
I look forward to meeting you, maybe at a Boston vicinity rec climb.
Ted

Yeah he is something else. I too look forward to meeting you sometime. Their are tons of climbing comp coming up I'm sure we'll cross paths. I'm looking forward to a Boston Climb sometime soon!!!

Oh that Gus, Don't think that one will make the cover of the TCIA magazine. Had a great climb today and thank you to all who participated. Learned a few new tricks, go to meet some really great tree folks and had a great time.
Looking forward to the next time we can get out and climb on!!!

I learned a ton of new tricks that will definitely make my life easier at work. Not to mention my wallet a few bucks lighter after I hit submit on yet ANOTHER order to Sherrill tonite.

I'll take it as it comes, I would have liked to learn that retrievable re-direct you had set up there John with the double pulley, but figured it would have been lost in my memory anyways, so I'll save it for another day. That would be awfully slick though, and save having to climb up to retrieve a redirect unnecessarily, especially if you're working the bottom of the tree!

Was nice meeting everyone, and Bean (the dog) too!

Gus is indeed a character. Jon, thank you for setting lines before people arrived, a huge time saver (for me at least) Great Day, Great Climbing,Great learning experiences, and like Jon said, great meeting some awesome tree folks. Jeff, if you could send me some of those pictures you took, would be sweet. Hopefully see you all soon and take care.
