Pulley Switchover???

I hope to be doing much more tree work this summer. At 48 I need all the benefits I can get! I attempted running my climbing line thru a pulley in the past and was always intimidated by it. The reaction is so quick and need to hold tighter while hip thrusting always seemed a pain.

Can you offer up any suggestions to make the transition easier???

do you wear rubber palmed gloves, I really like the wonder gloves, makes gripping easy.

also try making you hitch as short as you can to blend better with the quicker reaction of the pulley.

Also, try getting used to tending slack more often as you move, cause you will eat a lot more rope when climbing on a pulley ;) and having to hold with almost zero friction and tend a huge amount of slack is harder.

hope this helps.

Oh yeah, do lots of chins, all grips this will make holding and moving soooooo much easier.

Yep the rubber gloves and the pantin are the trick.
When using the pantin I grip right below my micro pulley with the gloves on and often don't loose an inch.

I've been climbing on a floating pulley tied off to an 8 at the base of the tree a lot more lately and really enjoy the speed of setup and ease of entry.

I have 10 years on you Rich. You may want to look at Gerry Baranack's(SP) double rope walker vid in the video section. It is way back on page 14. Otherwise if you have the bucks, get a Wraptor. They are awesome!

I would say rubber palmed gloves and footlock the tail when body thrusting.. The pantin looks nice though instead of locking the tail ( which is what I do). I tie a long split-tail and grip under the hitch and slide it up as I ascend.

For my PulleySaver, I find a pantin does not help much, since you have to install it by hand at your tip, after that it is usually a bit of up and down and out on limbs, and the pulley makes that easy-peasy ;)

I would ask what pulley you're climbing off? there are some of the ones that aren't designed for tree work like some of the harken pulleys that are ratcheting ones that might be to your liking. They are a bit bulkier but it depends on your set up.

I am in the process of making my own Pulley Saver with a Pinto Pulley!
