Why not put a L foot ascender on the R foot spur?
Mike I have a right pantin . You think on left shank is the best way .? Its a buck ti .
Have you done a pantin on one yet?
Mike haven't had much time to take pics of footie or shank. Do you need me to pull the shank apart, is that what I'm gathering ?I have never used or mounted a pantin on spurs before. I strayed away from them because of the likelihood of kicking out. I don't like the kick out option when using spikes.
Whatever foot you normally use, I would choose. But the reason I use a left foot CT ascender on the right spur is so that the ascender is oriented towards the back of the foot, and also the rope is now closest to the spur (creates less twisting and torque on the gaff bolts, plus is more comfy).
If your interested, snap a picture of your gaff and shank separated, so I can see the hole configuration on the Buck TI's
Hope this helps.
Yeah ,that's the set up if I'm not mistaken. I have another complete set to use in the interm. The old steelys.. I'll take some pics of back of pantin and the shank tomorrow. Thanks Mike.Yeah (3/16" hex head), I just have never seen how the buck titanium configuration is layed out, though there is a good chance that they are the same as the buck steels (newer ones will have a small round peg that pertrudes out)....like in this picture...http://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=72&item=367
If that is the case, I wouldn't need your spurs....so you could still use them as I work it out on the ascender. Hope this helps
Yeah man, who wants to worry constantly about another accident happening. Best to reduce odds. Gaff In the calf is no good. I think the CT is the way. Let me know : )Mike I kicked out with the pantin today so bad I nicked my tachyon today. I decided right then and there I'd rather melt that fucker down than do anything with it . I guess that's better than have mounted it on the spur , telling myself of course that I'll clip that little biner in the biner hole ,but I won't . Just that one tree reminded me why I bought a ct. I have a cmi as well that I rigged up a saka for a buddy , maybe I'll Indian trade him the pantin for it . Or . just. Buy . a. .a. Nother c.t....![]()
Yeah I just decided to climb on it one more time before dismantling it. I couldn't believe it bit my line like that . if I had spurs on it would've been possible to gaff myself . I even thought maybe about keeping the pantin and mounting ct , but after using it today , the old pantin really isn't that good . Was fine when I was straight up and down ,but progressing onto/over limbs it just would kick out when I was at that transfer of moving my bodies weight off it and bam kick out. The deep channel and locking feature seems very important for on spur mount. Once I'm prepared to buy another footie I'll definitely be talking to ya.Yeah man, who wants to worry constantly about another accident happening. Best to reduce odds. Gaff In the calf is no good. Thanks for sharing that TTF. I was agreeing with Mike that in this case, the CT cannot be beat for having a cam lock but yet still fairly compact. Boots only, I LOVE a Pantin because I can purposely take it off the line with the twist/lift of my foot.Mike I kicked out with the pantin today so bad I nicked my tachyon today. Right off the bat, it looks like the ascender would be better with the cam facing the other way to get the rope path closer to the shank. I wouldn't know, though. Try it and see!My new spikes.....View attachment 29464
