Powers spur scender

I've used JB Weld to attach an old Pantin to my alloy Geckos.
There is no space (that I can see) on the Pantin to drill holes so I thought of epoxy.
I'll use a small Biner to avoid rope slipping out and spiking myself.
I don't even know if the JB Weld will do the job.

Damn photo won't load so I'll try later.

Awhile back when I was first brainstorming ideas as to how to attach the ascender directly to the shank, I tried JB weld. Didn't even come close to holding for me. Broke right off the bat.

Double flush plug rivets or tapping/threading for bolts have been very solid for me though.

Bugger it!
Ok so when it's set I'll drill through and rivet it.
Are double flush plug rivets, flat on both sides? I've never heard of them.

Old mill treecare, let me point you in the right direction, for a few bucks you can get a seet bolt on that works nice with your distels...two choices you have...a spikescender which you can purchase from Treestuff of a CT bolt on you can purchase from David Coker...don't drill the shanks that is silly....My KK 3.webp IMG02482-20141031-1719.webp

I agree with Swing. With your particular spikes, I would go towards using an ascender that is offset from the Gaff. Double flush plug rivets are used when countersinking both sides of metal your putting together, and when the rivet is pressed, will create a sharp hourglass so to speak. (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/22znIhyRbZL.jpg) You can see this in a couple of Mac's pictures above as well : )

Thanks Swingdude.
I was unaware of this adaptor. Sadly the Kiwi Klimbers stuff isn't available in England for another month so I'll place my order on Monday.
I'll try my JB Weld attempt just to see but better keep my right leg well out the way!

Oceans....Eric I checked the distance the spurascender would be compared to my pantin...there is only a cm difference that the rope is offset..this setup is well tested..why I like it is unlike the one on my distels it will keep the rope away from the gaff...something the CT mounted ascender did...did not like that..we will see...it is all experimental and I am yet to receive my KK's

Right on, Paul. You know, looking back at my post, what I should have said was: "Wow! Those are beautiful and appear as they would be very functional. Although, I do wonder if the cam is too...blah blah blah".

I am certain you will keep us all posted when they arrive and you try them. Just gotta wonder if the rope is running near the shank, as long as it stays in the ascender, it shouldn't be in harm's way...unless the climber has the rope in the cam to tail the line while actually using the spikes to ascend on wood. Now there, I can REALLY see why you'd want it away from the gaff as shown in the KK photo. Let us know, bud.

I've discovered that the KK stuff is available in England now but I can't find this adapter that you've put on your Distels.
You mention David Coker but I don't know who he is.
Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Thanks
Al.

I have been making Ct foot ascender attachments to a plate that can easily be mounted to your spikes, just as Swing's buddy is doing. Though I have been working on climb rite aluminum and Buckinghams, so I would need your spurs to make the proper adjustments for the configuration on your gaff. Swing's friend I believe has already been working on the distels so he probably wouldn't need your spurs. So it is your choice : )

Problem is that I live in England so the cost of postage would probably cost more than the spikes themselves!

I'm sure I can find someone here to make one or its probably simple enough for a dumb climber like me to figure out with a hacksaw and plenty of shouting.
lol!

Here is David's number tell him Paul gave it to you...it's just a bolt on...no messing with anything...even has a eye on the left one to use a clip in HAAS.... David Coker from Alabama...205-612-7182....take off gaffs and bolt on easy peasy good luck old mill

I think New York is closer than Alabama to England if I'm not mistaken . Less postage. Either or the work looks real good from the pics. I'm saving my duckets for a footie and a powers spurcender

Thanks Mike and Swing.
I used my JB Weld method on a large Pine dismantle and it did hold.
However, I was extremely nervous because it became immediately apparent that of the Pantin parted from the shank, I could easily drive the spike into my other leg. Not good.
Also, my rope below the Pantin was constantly next to the spike making it very easy to spike my rope. Not good.
I won't be using this again and will find a piece of metal to do what you guys have done.
Or if I get carried away I'll get the Kiwi Klimbers thing!
