Well I managed to hold on to my title as PNW TCC champ one more time. This year the event was held in Stanly park in Vancouver B.C. A magnificent park with huge old trees. Those Canadians really set up some fantastic and challenging events, for starters the speed climb was 90' with 40' of bodythrusting or stadic line climbing at the start. At the work climb everyone needed a 140' rope and it had a good spread with stations way out on each side. By the end of the preliminaries everyone was beat.
Then came the masters. 170' rope was needed. I believe the physical demands of the day helped me to win. I have been going to the gym for rehab on my knee and have been doing a lot of cardio stuff, so I still had some energy left and was able to finish the masters.
I was sloppy though, three throws to get into a low(60') crotch, then worked my way up. Tried a big jump to another stem, did not make it and came swinging back getting tangled in my line. I also had a hard time advancing my line at times. All in all when I came down I new my title was up for grabs.
I watched the other three climbers give it a go. Two of them got their first throw into a higher spot than me right off the bat. I sat bug eyed, not hearing the conversations going on around me only the churning in my stomach. But each one ran out of juice, just plain tired from the day and could not finish the climb in the time limit (30 mins).
Also to note our female climber Kathy kicked ass, completing all the events with style, look out Montreal.
