petzl Rig

Just curious if anyone else is experimenting with the Petzl Rig on SRT climbing/ spiderwebbing? I srt tree's religously and am looking for feedback on the "rig" before I throw down the greenbacks... I am into the cinch as of know, however the cinch has it's downfalls "literally" so to speak. thanks in advance...

I think the RIG is for 10,5 to 11,5mm Ropes, you could try it with Tachyon.
I like it, and will probably buy one!...

Yep, I almost bought a RIG from On Rope yesterday. I looked at it last Thursday I think it was and gave it some serious thought. I have an I'd, and I like the size of the RIG.

The RIG is much shorter, lighter, and thinner than an I'D but about as much bigger than a Grigri as it is smaller than the I'D (That make any sense?).

The only reason I didn't buy it is the spec'd rope capacity. Kinda strange if you ask me, the Grigri is 10mm and 11mm. I use a PMI 10mm rope a lot and while it'd probably work, it would not be according to manufacturer's specs and I just wasn't sure about that.

I bet it'd be good on my 11mm Velocity rope though.

Did someone say it didn't have the panic stop? I wasn't aware of that, can somebody confirm that?

Jep, I can confirm that. I already played with it and did a decent some meters.
It also doesnt have the toothed cam that avoids the ID to be used when the rope is entered in the device the wrong way around.

I think its for these reasons why Petzl claims it to be for professional user only. Makes sense to me at least !
So the ID still has its place.

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks for the confirmation about the panic handle - I liked that feature.

I really don't like the safety cam you mentioned. That thing can grab the rope even when threaded correctly. All it takes is a bit too much slack.

BTW, do you recall what make and size of rope you tried it on?

It was a 11mm Kernmantle Rope, no Arbo -Line, but it was just a short play.

I dont like the cam of the ID either, sometimes stucks when taking slack out of the rope when RADS, but its a good idea somehow.
