Petzl Adjustable Rope Bridge

Has anyone used the Petzl Connect Adjust in SRT mode with some sort of friction device above it (such as a rope wrench/hitch, ect)? - I wonder if it could work.

Thanks

I used it with a BDB, before I bought my TreeMotion, and I put an adjustable bridge on it, as well. I believe I posted pics of that setup quite a while ago. It works really well for me, short for ascending, mid for working, long for descending. Hope this helps you out. Be Safe.

Thanks for replying with that info Dave - you might have got my meaning wrong though; I was wondering if the Petzl Connect/Progress Adjust would work when Ascending/Descending on a single line (SRT) when you put a rope wrench/hitch, ect above it?

I know it wasn't designed for that - though I'm wondering if anyone has tried it yet? - And how it might have worked/not worked?

Thanks

Ha ha - thanks for trying to answer Dave; I might not be explaining it correctly though...

It's not for an adjustable rope bridge at all - it's to use it as an SRT device.

Ok - say your climbing on an hitchclimber pulley, friction hitch (with rope wrench above) (SRT) - now take away the pulley and the friction hitch and replace it with the Petzl Connect/Progress Adjust - if you can picture that, you'll know what I'm trying to get at.

Thanks

Ahhh, I got it! I don't think I personally would even attempt that scenario, what happens if you get slack in the system, the rope slides (creeps) through the bridge adjuster, what stops the rope from passing through completely? You want to use it as an adjustable tether from the bridge to the mechanical/ ascending device, correct?

Nope - you're almost there; I want to use it AS the mechanical ascending device!

Forget the rope bridge - ha ha! :) I suppose it's 'cos I posted this question under the rope bridge thread - that's got you thinking along these lines...

I'm currently only thinking for secondary line right now (DSRT) - so it would be better to think of it as a lanyard adjuster in SRT mode. It would not be my primary life support. Dmm hook Dave - it's all connected!

I think I'm picking up what you're laying down. Can you draw a picture or diagram of the entire setup?
I understand what you mean.. But I don't know why you'd want to?
Ease of tending might be questionable?
For some reason.. I don't see it being much good outside of its intended use.
Do you have one laying around?
Anyways, what do I know? Could be great. Haha

Edit: quoted the wrong dude. My bad.

I have painstakingly crafted this diagram - the detail in each piece of equipment, I'm sure you will agree, is unsurpassed...

jmaher - Are you really asking me why I'd like to try and substitute both the hitchclimber pulley and a prussik with one small, light device? - I'd have thought it would be self explanatory...

Still, I might be dreaming - it's just an idea...

As far as I can find on the internet - Petzl doesn't want to tell you what size diameter rope the Connect/Progress Adjust can operate - I think that's because they don't want you to cut out the supplied rope that it came with in the first place.

May have a wrench in the next month or so. Don't have a Connect/Progress Adjust.

:)

I see that you want to use it as a secondary line.. I could get down with that. But I stick by the comment that I couldn't understand why someone would want it as a main work line. Eye n eyes are cheap. Everyone has pulleys...

Of course - I totally know where you're coming from with regards to using it as your primary ascent/descent device - yeah, that would be sketchy (trying to use it in a way is was not designed for) and annoying (as the rope would not exit the device straight down). Still - if no-one has tried it yet - we still need to know if the idea has any legs or not...

I have no eye n eyes. I have one pinto rig - ha ha! A few revolvers though...

Okay Craig, the Petzl Bridge Adjuster accommodates 11mm rope, if you attempt to attach a RW to the PBA, it will be inverted, which won't apply pressure on the 2ndary rope , I have a bigger question, in your diagram, it appears that your primary (Main Cl. Line) & (2nd Cl Line) are the same rope?
So, in order for you to forget this idea, you'll need an E2E, and a Rope Wrench! That you need to purchase, but the e2e, I will give you. What type of carabiner do you use? I'll put together a stay safe package!

Dave - you are already generous enough with your time and efforts, thank you for the offer though...

I wonder if you could further clarify
if you attempt to attach a RW to the PBA, it will be inverted, which won't apply pressure on the 2ndary rope
? - Please forgive me for asking - this isn't a right handed, left handed thing is it (ie - flipping the device over?)?

- I'm amazed that you managed to get that from my extremely detailed drawing ;) - but yes - I am using the tail end of my rope (for simplicity, for now) as my secondary line.

I have options already - I just want them simpler/quicker (less gear, on and off quicker, ect). I believe in pursuing an idea though to it's end (which often takes a long time, as I have many ideas in my head). I'm just following the reasoning that if something managed to take over half of the weight load that the Petzl Connect Adjust uses to engage - surely it would make it at least twice as easy to 'release' it?

Okay the PRA:

Allows the 11mm rope to cinch down in 1 direction, and when pushed down, it allows the rope to run freely. Now adding a tether & ZK-2 RW, will slow the 2ndary rope exponentially. But what are you using for a rope ascender/descender on the primary rope?
