Petzl Adjustable Rope Bridge

This is just a little idea I was playing around with. This is using 4mm cord which I don't think is rated but I think you could squeeze in some 5mm Maxim. This makes the Treemotion rope bridge easily adjustable with a small prussic that stays out of the way, yet easily adjusts and tends itself with a tug of your rope bridge.

Hi mike. I've thought about something like this, but don't you think a prussik might easily release accidentally when your ring/pulley/biner or whatever you have on the bridge swings over onto that side?

I guess that is a possibility. Good looking my friend. Yet, I don't think it would bother me the way I would use it.

My "normal" climbing bridge length is where the green rope bridge stopper knot is. So it would cause no problems during my work climb. I would only tighten my bridge (maybe 6-9 inches tops) for long ascents and spar work. The potential for the prussic to release is possible if you turn your body totally sideways, but would be caught by the green stopper knot no matter what.

So worst case scenario, you slip a bit I guess. Mini butt pucker :rico:

If you are looking for a ton of adjustability, this probably isn't for you

Okay Guys, I really like the adjustable bridge, but how would you go about having a longer than normal adjustable one with a mechanical device on a TreeMotion harness? I'm not completely sold on the prussik or blake's? Hitch. Is that what you have there Mike? What would you recommend YoYoMan? Others are definitely invited to throw some suggestions at me! My bridge is about 6-9" shorter than the original, that's the way I bought it. I'm just looking for the safest and least expensive method, I still want to be able to use my Rook/Hydra as my main point of attachment. Any Ideas? Thanks

I don't know what it would take to remove the cool D's that TreeMotion and it's just me but I would figure a way to put the CT RollNLock on the back side of those D's. I think others have done that? Or look closely at JB's concept with the Petzl Ring Open.

I've got a pair of the adjustable lanyard rings and the lanyard also but I really don't want to bastardize my Petzl Seat Saddle. I'd love to find someone to buy it! What is the device that singlejack put on the Petzl ring is that the CT RollnLock? I'm trying to get my mind wrapped around the use of a longer bridge and tie wrapping the CT to the ring, that would allow me to raise the Rope Runner up to eye level. Got to give it a try.

Yes, singlejack posted a photo of a Petzl ring and the CT RollnLock. I can't live without the adjustment. When very short it adds stability during the ascent and lowers the multicender to a passive position, when I'm working I open it up and the length gives me movement and puts the multicender at chest/eye level for easy access. There are other advantages but those are the most important to me. Oh, and if I'm in the mood I can snake the tail back thru and make a double bridge.

Where can someone find a RollnLock at a decent price, I found one for $56, is that the going rate for one? I may be ordering one tomorrow morning.

Yea, I just tried TreeStuff and they are sold out and now it's time for Bartlett's. Thanks, Richard, it's always something. Man oh man I'm tired of spending money every single day!

I got some 6mm OP in there today to make that whittle baby prussic. I don't care what you guys think, works awesome : ) I loved being able to cinch up tight for spar work. I get why Richard can't live without his.

ok great! I'll give it a crack too then, cheap is good. I didn't mean to sound critical at all before I apologise if you took offence, it is just what i thought when i considered a hitch and why i had already dismissed the idea, I'm very grateful that you went and tried it anyway.

I guess you can always pop in a slipknot stopper behind, it'd only take a second
best :)

No offense ever my friend. I was just saying it worked out well. 2 stopper knots. You just really want to dress it over and over and get that baby as tight to the lower D's as possible so there is no slop.

I surely think using the CT roll n lock would be much smoother, but I like keeping gear and weight to a minimum so it is a good solution for me : ) Stays out of the way and is unnoticeable during climb.

Again my adjustment is probably 6 inches in tight, and never to lengthen. If you are planning on constantly adjusting and want lots of extra bridge length to play with, there may be a better option for ya.

My Petzl adjustable bridge was damaged recently, and since I love the adjustablity but am a bit underwhelmed by this implementation, I think I am going to put a roll'n lock on my ring open (saddles are sequoia and onyx). I think I'm going to get a 60" or 65" eye and eye sewn, since the R'nL is midline attachable. For some reason I am totally comfortable terminating my climbing line with a knot, but they occasionally sketch me out on my bridge; not the stopper knot style, but the anchor hitch style. Makes no sense, but there it is. Anyhow, I am thinking of 10mm Armor-prus, 10mm Ultra-tech, 10mm Epi-cord, or 10mm Globe 3000 as the new jawn. Any comments or reviews would be welcome, both on the textile and the length.

Mike - I can see your knot, but I'm not too familiar with prussics - Can you tell me what knot it is?

Is it Ocean Vectran 6mm Cord (I can't seem to find OP 6mm)?

Thanks

Yes you have the right 6mm cord there. I'm not even sure what I tied. I think it is very similar to a tautline with an extra wrap above (I tied it differently with the 6mm vectran than in the pic I posted, I think). Then I tied a simple overhand knot to keep it from ever pulling through.

Make sure to weight and dress your prussic over and over before tying that final stopper knot to keep things neat. :birra:
