Payment by credit card

You may want to flip the telescope, or at least be clear on whether there are laws in your state governing the addition of a surcharge for credit card payments, before adding a surcharge to your contracts and proposals. Florida as an example has law on the books making it illegal to charge a surcharge for payment by credit card, and consumers who have been overcharged on that basis can report the vendor/contractor to the Florida Attorney General, to seek recourse. It is however acceptable to offer a cash discount, so some merchants simply price their goods and services higher and then offer a discount for cash payment.

Little late to the party on this, but I do use Quickbooks Online. No monthly fees, just the usual 2.5% on the transaction. There are various ways to set it up, you can use the app and take a picture of the cc, swipe the cc on the iPhone, input the info manually in the phone or computer, or the customer and pay online via cc. But, I don't use it, the 2.5% adds up. I also have the option for a transfer out of the clients checking account into mine. That makes it to my account in a matter of days. If cash flow gets tight, I can always offer credit card payments

I was just going to post that. We just a letter from AMEX that said its illegal to add surcharges for AMEX...something happened in federal court with them.

I run Wells Fargo merchant services it's around $50 per month 2.5-3% depending on card, usually takes 3 days for funds to be available

If anyone is not taking cards I would highly recommend getting set up for them, it has nearly doubled our gross per year. Great option to give potential clients

I have switched to quickbooks online. I send most of my estimates and invoices through e mail. When I use quickbooks online I set up credit card payment through them. Now, when I send an invoice it has a PAY NOW option. Most often people pay right away and the money is in my account in 2 days. What is the BEST. Is once they pay quickbooks automatically records the transaction into my register. I don't have to do anything!!

Luke you need to drop them. The rates for Square are the same and you don't have to pay $50 monthly fee and there's not setup fee. What is WF bringing to the table to earn that $50/mo

After a year and a half with Flagship merchant services, the first time I really needed them for anything (like was asked above, "what are they doing to get that $ per month) was last week. And it was a miserable, frustrating experience I would not recommend to anyone.
I'm going to switch and try PayPal We will see how that works.

I had decent experience with PayPal for buying/ selling things, haven't heard anything really bad about their commercial program, so I figured I'd give it a try.
Again, the experience I had with Flagship was bad enough that it can't help but be an improvement.

I'm open to Square too, haven't decided yet.
How similar is Square to PayPal?
