Pacific Northwest Chapter \'04 jamboree results

The PNW-ISA chapter Tree Climbing Competition was held on May 8th, in Spokane, Washington. This is about 20 miles west of the Idaho border, so it was a pretty good ride the 280 miles from Seattle. Nice views of the Columbia River Gorge, parts of which were traversed by Lewis & Clark.

The same two champions repeated from last year. Dan Kraus won the men's contest, and Kathy Holzer is the winner in the womens division. Way to go ! They'll be representing us in Pittsburg this August. Lots of cool goodies went as prizes.

I had the honor of watching all 23 climbers in the Work Climb. Judging this event is a chance to get a climbing lesson par excellence! They did a fantastic job, putting their all into the Red Oak climb.

This event also went toward qualifying for Tree Worker Certification, along with a written test and knot tyng exam.

The judges & volunteers who put on this great event deserve our thanks for allowing the climbers to test their skills. Event chair was Blair Veitch, a Davey man who came all the way from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Our host was Jim Flott, arborist for the City of Spokane, and his park was planted in 1904. Great trees !
