Tune in to the newest episode of the Educated Climber Podcast to hear "Origin Stories: The Rope Wrench" with Kevin Bingham.

This is the behind-the-scenes story of the development of the Rope Wrench, from the godfather of SRT himself, Mr. Kevin Bingham. From the initial idea that led to the F8 Revolver, to online collaboration (on TreeBuzz!) that produced the ZK-1, to licensing the Wrench to ISC and refining the tool to produce the shiny ZK-2, this is the inside scoop that few have heard.

We also dive deep into the backstory of how Kevin got into climbing, where innovation comes from, Kevin’s ideas for bike-based tree care services, some current projects, as well as where he sees the industry heading into the future. I know you will enjoy listening to Kevin’s stories!

Currently available on the podcast player of your choice, via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Google Play Music, or you can listen directly on the website:

Good eye Moss. I had encoded it as a variable bit-rate file and apparently certain podcast apps were not playing it back properly. I just re-uploaded a new copy and it seems to work fine now. You will just have to delete the copy that you already have and redownload it, and it should work. I'm new to this! Thanks again Moss.

Excellent, thx Muggs

Superb, must listen tree radio ;-) The generosity of key people in the tree community jumps out, Peter Jenkins/TCI in Atlanta, Tom Dunlap giving Kevin the floor at TCIA, Will Blozan, Appalachian Arborists, Rich Hattier, Luke at TreeStuff, that these people stepped up at the right time is no surprise, this is what they do day in day out. Then there is the collaboration, we saw it as it was happening on the Buzz, too many to mention but (correct me if i’m wrong) I believe it was Surveyor/Gordon who suggested adding the sheave to the ZK-1. Yet another example of the collaborative generosity which only cares to solve the problem and doesn’t descend into selfishness. Thx again Patrick for making the interview happen.

I'm gonna look up pics of the bicycle with chipper.

Really enjoyed the historical, innovation and collaborative aspects of the RW and Kevin's climbing career.

Great interview. Thanks @Muggs and @treebing

I have the various links that we talked about in the podcast on the show notes page, including the High Stepping video, the original F8 Revolver thread, 2 of the old F8 Revolver videos, and his bike based business setup video, available at

Thanks for the feedback everyone, working on the next one...
