Guessing I'm not alone in the fact on more than one occasion over the years I've ascended a residential tree & stumbled across something not natural, well out of place & oddly surreal. Just wondering if others have had these same discoveries monkeying around in a tree?
Mine was at the 3/4 height point of an abnormally large and sprawling 100'+ codominant cedar... the remnants of a wicked old barely even metal at that point bicycle frame that was nearly entirely included by the union of the two stems... later in the climb (pruning) it became a major pain in my a$$ as my running end kept getting snagged on it! It was an old farm tree on land that had been subdivided into smaller parcels but the work was being done for the original family still living in the old house.. the older man of the family said he had heard about it being up there but never saw it.. until I pruned the tree out creating a visual path up the trunk
For years after I thought about that poor bike. Was it lonely? Did it feel abandoned by its peddlar for all those years? Is it beyond restoration at this point? Even worse thoughts though.... did its owner ever wake up one day & ask themselves "now where did I go & leave that bike of mine?"
A few other noteworthy "treasures"
-Panties (true story)
-Racoon momma & spawn (we didn't like each other much)
-Yellow jacket colony in a rotten cedar stem (again, not too happy with each other)
