not a monkeypuzzle

Ran up on a tree today. Dark bark and thorns similar to a monkeypuzzle on the stem. There appeared to be fruit, but the owner told me the "fruit" blossoms into a big white flower. Any ideas? zone 9/Florida

Chorisia?

Not close to a MP but...

It's got the thorns and the fruit turns into a big "cotton ball" that might be considered a "flower"

I was thinking about trying out the BCMA in a couple years as well, but now that they put the kabosh on the tropical version I've given up that idea. I'm not going to spend the time learning about N. American trees and diseases if I don't live there.

Back to the subject at hand...chorisias are nice trees (aside from the thorns). Are the flowers pink or yellow?

Here is the green seed then it opens up and it looks like a big ball of cotton..

Hey guys, there is no tree ID on the BCMA exam. Just know your biology, Biotic & Abiotic, cultural cures, apprasials & client relations.
The exam isn't that hard, just "Alot!" of general knowledge in every area of Arboriculture.
