Northern California Climbing

I have been asked by a group of three adult students if I know anyone near Eureka CA that they can join to climb in the coastal redwoods.

So who do you know?

They are not able to set a date yet but are just in the planning stages.

THANKS!

If you are planning for what you may call "promote safe and environmentally", odds are you are not interested in old redwood forest, unless after September. Does that sound about right?

There's an outfit that deals with redwoods in Arcata, although not enormous ones.

I am glad to read your response and yes I will only consider authorized climbing. That tour company seems to be the ticket. Thanks.

BTW is there a reason you stated dates? My guess is that there must be something in "season" hince I will need to know more.

For example, research climbing permits are for after mid-Sept. due to the nesting of the Murrelets. The same birds could certainly nest in privately held old growth. Take Trees of Mystery redwood for example. Its a humongous old growth redwood, and could be potential habitat for that species to nest in.

You ever ordered a copy of Beranek's CD A Tree Story? I thought it was rather fun to read about his climbing adventures starting back in the 70s (redwoods). www.atreestory.com
