Newb needing new stuff

I took my 4th ascent today and I had a lot of fun. I made it up about 40 feet up. In the tree and after getting down it's apparent I'm ill equipped. right off the bat I know need a split tail as my hitchcord looks uncomfortably crispy for such little use. I also need a long lanyard\secondary climb line because I had to do some less than ideal rope manipulation to get that high. I'd like a tuff lanyard and a split tail that will work on arborplex. What do you recommend?

Better to descend and try again.

There was a reply about cordage that would work for a hitch on APlex. If you want a split tail...just use Aplex or almost any other rope that's smaller diameter.

How did you learn about tree climbing? Have you taken lessons? Do you have a buddy/mentor to learn from?

I use a 15' 11mm static rope as my lanyard, a pulley/hitch combination makes for easy adjustment.

I found arborblex on arborplex is terrible to the point of being unusable for a hitch.

I bow hunt and bought some cheap rope(arborplex) to cut up and use for a lifelines leading to my treestands. One thing lead to another, now I'm having fun climbing it. No lessons or tree people. just learning by reading and watching youtube(sounds terrible now that I write it out).

Back in the ancient days of early eighties arbos we’re tickled to have aplex for climbing. Before that three strand Manila and a few three strand synthetics were used. Tautline and a tail on aplex was standard. Of course we have better choices now

My first rope was Arborplex with a 5/2 Blakes on the tail (closed system). I went to an open system using an Arbormaster Bigfoot split tail with sewn eye. A Blakes worked well for me at 165# back then.
