The NZTCC was held Nov 16 2002 in New Plymouth following our normal series of Regional Competitions. In all 74 climbers entered in the regionals held in New Zealands four main centers with the top 20 qualifying to compete in the Nationals (with the previous years top four making 24).
We were most fortunate to have Beddes Strasser and Thilo Beeker helping out this year to set a very challenging work climb and Masters, thanks guys.
Conditions on the day consisted of heavy rain in the morning (which resulted in us having to re set the work climb to make the climb possible!) followed by an exceptionally sunny afternoon.
The only dry climb in the preliminary events was the footlock event which was set up in a sound shell. To quote Thilo 'this is the best footlock he has ever seen'.
Final results:
1st Andrew Harrison (Defending Champion)
2nd Scott Forrest
3rd Tony Wilson
4th Paul Kenny
Many thanks to our sponsors especially STIHL and the numerous helpers and officials that despite the weather conditions carried on regardless to put on a world class event.
