New Tribe Walkabout Saddle

Anyone have any experience using the Walkabout saddle?

Reviews. Pro/Cons would be appreciated.

Also what are the benefits of a floating bridge? My only experience is with New Tribe saddles using a screw link as my attachment point.

Thanks,
Tim

I picked one up about a month ago as a lighter version of my NT Onyx. Treestuff.com has the large size on sale (I think they have been discontinued by NT). I like it for my recreational climbing. I find it to be a very comfortable saddle and even more so with the optional add on waist and leg pads.

The rope bridge allows you to roll side to side for much better maneuverability and reach than the fixed position styles. I set mine up as an adjustable length rope bridge but that's another story. The rigging plates where the bridge attaches also have free holes providing a great place to attach a lanyard that allows you to still sit in the saddle with full comfort.

Me likely.

Thanks for the info. I noticed the discounted price at treestuff and that is what got me thinking.

I have a Treefox and an Onyx, they are both great saddles. As mentioned already the rope bridge has some advantages for movement. Although I think the best feature of a rope bridge is the ability to make its length adjustable. I know a different story but a very good story. The Treefox is a single Delta, I rigged mine with a rigging plate so can attach multiple carabiners.

Bummer...the walkabout is no longer at Treestuff. WesSpur has them in both sizes for a little more.

Edit...WesSpur has the webbing bridge version. Says they can get the rope bridge, but I'm guessing it's old ad copy and no longer available.

The NT Aero Hunter looks like the Walkabout with an adjustable length rope bridge and seat sling instead of leg loops. Not sure how restrictive the seat sling would be for a rec climber.

New Tribe sells the hunting package, with a lanyard and an anchor strap, for $399 or the saddle alone for $299. TreeStuff sells the whole package for $299. The rope bridge version of the Walkabout is (was) $275, if it's even available.

The photo on Treestuff has the older leg loops which I think makes it the same saddle as the Walkabout and is probably the reason for the discounted price. A call to confirm would be in order, but it might be the last chance for that style.
