New Rope time................

I am about to get a new climbing line. I have been on velocity for about 1.5 years now. I am looking at both Blue Moon and Tachyon. Not much out there about the blue moon, and Tachyon seems to be a no dissapointment line.

What says you?

Recently I have been climbing on Tachyon and have liked what I have experienced so far. I use Tenx for the split tail and it has worked out just fine.

With so many rope manufactuers out their and so many new names to remember it gets difficult to decide. I still use my XTC Plus for a good amount of rough climbing. Industrial use, like big removals and such. Takes a beating and still no snags or tears. It might be a bit heavy for some climbers but who cares when it is hanging up in a tree. The tree supports the weight of the climbing line.

I think the blue moon is poison Ivy just a different color.Tachyons great, recommend climbing off a pulley or friction saver and I wouldnt burn out on it.Ive kinda scortched mine pretty quick, but thats due to the fact like 4 guys barrowed it after my work climb---------toast

You should find out if Blue Moon is a custom color of another rope. The trend in the last few years has been for manufacturers to make a rope and vendors to have custom colors spun. Same ropes, different names.

I've been using Tachyon for my SRT rope and like it alot! The very first thing that I noticed is that it has much less volume in my rope bag. The next thing I noticed is that Tachyon is lighter than the 200' of KMIII that I've dragged around as my carry-on on planes for years. A triple play, great rope, less volume and less weight...could it be better?

Blue moon IS Poison ivy in a different color combo. Same with that Bailey's Neo pro or whatever it's called. I've climbed on 3 hanks of PI over the last 1.5 years. Tachyon is a better rope in my opinion. I haven't had any milking with my Tach, but I have seen others with 24" of milking. Tach stays round and has a smoother feel through your friction hitch. Tach is very difficult to splice compared to PI... 20 strand cover and second core make it super tight.

TLHamel, might you be thinking of Bishop's LimeLite24? That is just a neon colored version of Poison Ivy.

Isn't tachyon a 24 strand cover? I didn't count them yet, but I assumed that's what they were.

I really like the tachyon, fly was my favourite rope for a long time despite trying numerous others, i always went back to it....still too early to tell but i feel the tachyon has slightly broken the mould.

The tachyon line is great. Works well with all of my split tail combos (10mm beeline, hrc, ice) it is a bit slippery though and it isn't much help when it fuzzys up. I don't wear gloves so that doesnt help matters much.

I have both ends spliced and have had no milking problems and it has
less stretch than kmlll. I have yet to run it through a natural crotch, mostly friction saver or pulley on removals and all of my split tails are extremely responsive

I use it for srt as well and find that it works very well with my ascenders. I even hooked up a rads system and the rope runs nicely through my grigri

I use Fly right now, and like Steve has said, I've tried others but always went back to Fly. This summer a plan on buying a length of Tachyon though and trying that. I've always been a fan of New England products (Inheritied from Dad!!) and they haven't disappointed yet!!

blue moon is the same as poison ivy only its made by yale instead of samson. I find blue moon is cheaper I got 200ft with and eye splice from bailey's for a lot less then the same of poison ivy from sherril

i've been climbing on bluemoon for about 2 weeks, i switched from velocity and its a big difference, blue moon seems huge compared to it and it doesn't have the same low stretch..... oh yeah and it is just poison ivy with a new fancy color(milks the same too)

it is a pretty rope though

Today I was driving along a backroad in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and found a tall double trunk white pine. After taking too many Big Shots I finally got my Tachyon set in the tree. This was my first full length SRT climb with Tachyon. My TIP was about 75'. The Unicender will milk a rope if it has anything to give up. There was some rope left on the ground so I walked the Uni out to the end of the rope while I was on the ground. There was no extra sheath to milk off or even bunch up. So far, this is the most stable rope that I've climbed on.
