New Log Truck

I'm now thinking about a 24"x24" x 2" thick pad on top of a 36" pad. Seems like a good set up to me. What do you think? The bottom of the outriggers are 10"-12" I think. I should measure them to be more accurate.

Had to take the grapple off today for the first time. We had an Oak (not so big) in a weird place. No way to drop wood, so we decided to use the "crane". It worked out well. Here's a pic of a branch cut.

How did you like running a "crane" for the 1st time, if that was your first time?

Nope. Two bolts, slip the pin out and then 4 quick disconnects and put the hook on. Maybe 5 minutes tops.

Aspirations to gain and expand the fleet are good, but nothing without the quality of personel to execute the work. Find and keep people who you want to reproduce themselves, they will reproduce themselves when they train the greenhorns. Then make sure you keep the greenhorns.

Thats cool you can connect and disconnect fast.
Gotta believe that thing is dangerously fast on the swing if your all the way out, or does it slow dow or speed up related to your extension?
Gotta solid buyer for my Clam, Don't have a new one lined up yet. freakin out about operating without one for a couple months. I am droolin over your 50 footer. Mangoe's has a good point not sure who I'd trust to run it. My best guys are climbers.

It doesn't auto speed, but there are 5 settings. I switched to level 3 when in the tree and then 2 after it is clear of the climber. Level one is more for loading wood or bringing the boom in and out in between pics. I say this like I've done it hundreds of times? /forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We have three of us that could take the truck out and run it with success. Since it was my creation I took the first role of learning the ins and outs before I hand it over to the other guys. They're more than capable.

Anyway, I would agree with Mangoes about the primary obligation is to your crew and working on their future. We've been pretty successful there so it's now on to the fleet!
