New Log Truck

Last one. Oh, and this wasn't caused by a storm!

I don't have a scale, so I estimated it to be under 6K. It was 19" at the cut and about 60' total length. I was good for about 9500 at the point where I grabbed it.

The homeowner cut a pine and another oak down before this one. In my calculations, he was lucky on the first two since it was a straight cut in and then a slash from the back. No hinge at all.

Awesome!

Again, thanks for the good info, this helps me out a lot.

So, Heila hasn't responded to me yet, but from what I can tell, yours is a 270-6S, right? I've seen them say 56ft, 62ft and you said yours is 67ft. All depends on how high mounted on the truck I guess.

The two pictures you posted; with the boom straight out, and the boom folded up. Are either of them your truck? The folded up one is not your truck is it? Or was it, then you had them put on a different bed?

Oh, and great example pictures of why homeowners should not attempt to do tree removals themselves. You should put that on your business website. They just keep cuttin' till the thing goes. If it's not going, just keep cuttin. Just pull hard and keep cutting, that's all you need to do right? "don't know why it went the wrong way, darn thing started goin' the right way but then just decided to go off to the side".

The 270 6s is 56' horizontal, or 62' with the pull out jib (which we ditched). The height is 68' vertical. Is that clear?

The folded truck was not out truck, just want to show how it looks folded behind the cab. The second was our truck.

Do you think the difference in speed compared to the prentice 120/rotobec 80 is a considerable issue? I see the advantage of the reach and capacity increases but i wonder about setup time and speed of operation. Reason i question is in our area more often than not you aren't picking up excessively large pieces rather many mid sized grabs therefore speed is an asset..

If you want to see fast loaders, you have to go Scandinavian. My loglift uses Twin 100liter pumps and a large cooler. You can really make it dance though!
I was surprised at how much slower the Prentice type loaders were.

The other thing to consider is the loader rating. Most european log cranes are B4. That means they have a working life of 600,000 cycles.
