New Helmet

I do not care for the Pacific helmet, I bought one and it developed a crack after less than a year. No impact or anything, just developed a crack. The good people at aerial equipment replaced it with the same on which I have worn once.

My personal favorite is the ecrin roc. I don't wear muffs or a face shield though. The vertex seemed to be a nice unit but it sat too high on my little head.

I would go with the vertex if you wear muffs, not one of the helmets without a chinstrap.

The Pacific is definitely a more substantial helmet than the Petzl. They make many, many models.

However, the Petzl Ecrin Roc (vented), Ecrin Best or ST (non-vented, apparently discontinued) are very light and comfy.

The newer versions: Petzl Vertex Vent, Best and ST all have slots for mounting earmuffs, face shields, etc. Still light and comfy.

i'd say either the kong spider helmet, or grivel salamander
my 2 favorite, both sit very low on your head

Most of my guys prefer the Petzl to the Pacific. I used to buy the Roc however the Vertex is my preference now since you can add earmuffs and a shield. Also the Vertex Vent has inserts for the vents, which is a nice option for the winter. I have purchased 2 Pacific helmets over the years that had cracks in the Kevlar around the suspension mounts so that is also something to consider.

Regardless of regulatory restrictions, IMO, the foam helmets are better suited to high airflow uses like riding a bike. Otherwise, I think you need the airspace around your head.
